Hey! I did it! I built a custom muffler for my kart today, worked out amazing! When you crack the throttle, you get an authoritative Harley-like BRAAP! But it's not obnoxiously loud. Perfect. I even showed it to my cop neighbour and he loves it... Life's good!
Okay, so the cylinder was a CO2 actuation cartridge for a fire suppression system. It held CO2 at about 3000psi, and as such, is a pretty thick unit. The ends were more than 1/4" thick, the sides about 1/8". A heavy peice, but I was hoping it would deepen the tone. It worked. For the guts, I used some advice from you fine folks, and cheated a little. I did weld a stop in the middle of the pipe, but instead of drilling a zillion holes, I cut a whole bunch of slots with my grinder. Once that was done, I welded the pipe into the canister. I had to test it, so I have not yet cleaned up the welds or painted it. I'm hoping to find a red paint that can take the heat, because it HAS to be red! Thanks for the help guys, I can't belive it worked out this well on my first attempt! Cheers! Chris
