Hello from sweden!

It all started with 2 old lawnmowers we had lying around, they both had briggs & stratton flathead engines with 5,5 and 6hp. We rebuilt them to run horizontal, plugged som oil channels and grinded a few new ones along with a homemade oilslinger. Governor removed so we'll see how long they'll last.

Turned the carburator 90degrees and built a header from some scrapmetal. Its loud.

Then we turned our heads towards the frame. We are using the kartfab plans as a guide and slightly modifting to suite our application as we go. We also decided it would be easiest to buy an old 4wheeled thing with some kind of steering and brakes to modify and use on our kart. Said and done we picked upp a used atv for like 50 dollars. Wasnt running but all we wanted was the wheels, brakes and steering so it didnt matter. We got it running though, just bypassed the remotecontrol on/off cpu and it started right up and runs like a beast, would never leave my kid on that thing.

So now we had almost all we needed plus an extra engine for another project in the future. We welded the frame, rebuilt the front steering hubs with drumbrakes from the atv and added a camber adjustment bolt. It will be welded on the frame with the castorangle at about 15degrees.

We also orded two torqueconverters and rear shafts along with some other bits and pieces from China and today we hooked up the rear end. I had to build new hubs for the rear wheels out of some tubing, plan is to weld two nuts on it with one bolt acting as a key and the other just to squeese it to the shaft a bit more, we'll see if it holds up.

And that is where we are at the time being. We are taking it as it comes and solving problems as they show so we will see what we'll end up with.

I like everything--nice and clean and the welds ground down, all spiffy like. I like the square header best of all.

I think it falls under the art movement of Cubism.

Well thanks everyone, even pooboy ;-)

Theres been a slight change of plans. Time is not on our hand and hooking up the b&s with an enginemount and tc, both on the axleside (lawnmower boltpattern) is just timeconsuming, and also considering reliability we decided to use the atv 90cc loncin engine instead. A jackshaft is needed to be able to place the engine as far back as possible though.

I like that :D

the 90cc should have at least the power of one of the B&S engines.

I'm not even sure you'll need a jackshaft;
I think you could get away just having a fixed idler to route the chain properly.

Grant will certainly like seeing that (if you don't mess up that is ;))

PS Doug.. you know Johan is using his phone as well, right? just sayin'

The 90cc has more power than the b&s, about 7-8hp, and built to be revved. Electrical start is also comfortable 😊

Was thinking about an idler aswell but a fixed jackshaft built inte to the enginecradle seemed better when i looked at it. But the idler isnt ruled out yet, we dont have the parts yet so we'll see what we end up with :)

No offense Johan...
but, Again we see the almost conversion from Horizontal to Vertical shaft.
It just NEVER works out. I was excited about this one too!

Rest of the work is looking Awsome though. I love your front end set up!

No. Sure that is the easy way. But I thought you converted yours to actually run Horizontal without a RAGB.

Thing is everybody has acces to 3 or 4 Free Verticle shaft engines. Key word is "free" They have a free engine cause they cant afford the Horizontal shaft, therefore surely no money for a RAGB.

Anyway:backtotopic:
back to topic,:cheers2:

If we had gone with a simple clutch it would have been no problem to use the b&s, i have a cradle for it which can be modified to hold the TC but again, time.

But i will use it in a minibike project instead.

Please Please Document that Mini bike build here.
I am not kidding almost nobody has successfully done this, and I want to see you prove it is possible.
Don't get me wrong I am not at all doubting you. I just want to see it done so we have an example of proof for the future.

Plans were changed again and we decided to use the B&S engine since it seems no one else has succeded.

We got it working with the TC :cheers2:

Enginecradle fitted to chassis. Used aluminum profiles which allow you to slide in bolts, the cradle is mounted on these bolts and can then slide along the profiles. Makes for easy chain tensioning and adjustments.

I'm not sure the aluminium profiles can handle that.
In fact I'm nearly certain they can't!

the engine will just rattle loose and walk away eventually.
