Hello from sweden!
It all started with 2 old lawnmowers we had lying around, they both had briggs & stratton flathead engines with 5,5 and 6hp. We rebuilt them to run horizontal, plugged som oil channels and grinded a few new ones along with a homemade oilslinger. Governor removed so we'll see how long they'll last.
Turned the carburator 90degrees and built a header from some scrapmetal. Its loud.
Then we turned our heads towards the frame. We are using the kartfab plans as a guide and slightly modifting to suite our application as we go. We also decided it would be easiest to buy an old 4wheeled thing with some kind of steering and brakes to modify and use on our kart. Said and done we picked upp a used atv for like 50 dollars. Wasnt running but all we wanted was the wheels, brakes and steering so it didnt matter. We got it running though, just bypassed the remotecontrol on/off cpu and it started right up and runs like a beast, would never leave my kid on that thing.
So now we had almost all we needed plus an extra engine for another project in the future. We welded the frame, rebuilt the front steering hubs with drumbrakes from the atv and added a camber adjustment bolt. It will be welded on the frame with the castorangle at about 15degrees.
We also orded two torqueconverters and rear shafts along with some other bits and pieces from China and today we hooked up the rear end. I had to build new hubs for the rear wheels out of some tubing, plan is to weld two nuts on it with one bolt acting as a key and the other just to squeese it to the shaft a bit more, we'll see if it holds up.
And that is where we are at the time being. We are taking it as it comes and solving problems as they show so we will see what we'll end up with.
