You guys went a little hard on him, jeez. He was only answering to things that were asked. I really dont agree with that "dont say anything until pictures" thing. Yea, a little hard guys.

I would just take a break from trying to help if I got that frustrated.

Nahhh with how much money I spent building a Briggs when I should of built a non hemi 212cc I’m sure others here have also spent good money on stuff they found out later could of been done better cheaper.

It’s really just driving home that if you waste all your cash on parts that don’t work and have no cash to buy the parts that do work your gonna have a bad time.

OP has said in previous posts he wants to get the project done quickly. (springs almost here)
We can pretty much tell him everything he is gonna deal with when adapting eBay pulleys to a gokart jackshaft.

Different sizes of jackshafts will need a different size driven is his jackshaft long enough to except a driven CVT pulley etc… He’s playing adapto games and I have done that all my life. There’s stuff to watch out for before buying parts.

No I did lack pictures, to a degree. I did also say that I would get them that afternoon and there was already a solution brewing that required no pics. I also did screw up and waste some money already. I can see why they did that given previous history but I already agreed to not buy more parts I believe. I am not trying to start an argument, TLDR: I somewhat deserved it, and they had good intentions.

So like I know different size jackshafts take different pulleys, is it ok if my drive pulley hangs onto the threaded part of the jackshaft by a little? The nut will still thread on all the way. The only issue is that the threaded is thinner but the pulley will only overhang by less than a 1/4 of its thickness.

Edit: before you can ask:IMG_1840.jpeg
How do I slide a jackshaft over? A few hammer taps?

I should also apologize for my frustration. You were obviously working through the project in your head, which is a good thing!
But to repeat the universal lesson here, when you run into a snag in your head, write it down, go home and look at the project and see if you can solve it. By asking a group of strangers about your project, which you are looking at, don't expect accurate answers. We can offer guidance, but not actual solutions without the same knowledge and familiarity that you have of your project. That is why pictures are good for us and for you.
I do believe you and @Thepartsguy are on the right track for the best solution. be safe and have fun!
Also. think about the future. What we post here, will be here for years to come. People with the same type of project will want to see your kart and your solution.

I was thinking slide the jackshaft over to the left. Also yes the driven pulley CANNOT slide to far onto the jackshaft as when you tighten the nut down it will hit the end of the threads before it tightens against the pulley. It HAS to overhang the threads just a bit.

If you have the jackshaft mostly taken apart as shown in the above pictures you can tap it to the left but it might push the bearings out before the axle slides inside the bearings.

Many many times the 3/4 bearing will seize to the shaft and not allow it to slide at all. Two 3/4 Jackshaft bearings are very cheap if you have to wreck the bearings to get it all apart.

I do believe you underestimate the power of my dad’s 40 year old wd40 “liquid wrench.” Thanks tho!

Rubber mallets are good, but the “dead-blow” orange ones are even better. Those are the ones that sound like they’re full of sand. They don’t bounce back when you hit things.

Lol tell me about it. I bought a GPS branded CVT... Talk about could have been done better for cheaper!
Shoulda asked the forum first, you beeg dummy. 🤣 WTR buys ‘em for 50-60 dollahs! I’m gonna get the WTR branded one.

I hereby decree Thepartsguy as thread MVP.

Don’t think my dad has a dead-blow, but what stops the pulley from rubbing against the sheath of the jackshaft? There was a little metal disc but that would just be sacrificial. Pic:

edit: it isn’t permanently there, it is loose on the shaft. I am also noticing in this pic it looks like I might have an oil leak. Either that or it is just residue that sits around engines.

Nice photos Squiddy. Your engine sidecover above is missing two screws at about 9 and 11 o’clock. Could possibly have an oil leak there.

I get oil grunge everywhere on mine too (almost every single-cylinder air cooled industrial engine). I‘m not even sure these engines can stay oil-free. Could be anything:
Bad crankcase/side cover gasket
Bad crankshaft seals
Leaky or loose oil filler caps (one on each side)
Several bad oil changes in the past (oil spilled everywhere and it wasn’t completely cleaned up)

I referred back to the diagram on post #88. There’s no washer there that I can see but there might be either a raised area on the back of the driven pulley or what you have on the shaft already will serve the purpose as a “thrust washer” to stop rubbing.

Guess I’ll hope!
