Everybody knock's the 49cc engines but how many have the experience to back? It would be like me knocking on the 6.5 hp clones, when I've never owned one.

Are you kidding me? My clone will push my kart to at least 140 KMH. I think your engine would take a LONGGGG time to get to that kind of speed.

Not really. And considering...196cc's modded vs 49cc's ported with expansion pipe, stock carby (rejetted), stock air filter...I'd say that cheap jap does quite well for itself. And we are after fuel efficiency in said event, so we could push out more if we had no fuel limit.

That little 50 cant be pushing the double digit HP numbers tyler is. You do however have a very good aerodynamic advantage on him.

There are however 4 stroke motorcycles that REDLINE at 18,000-20,000rpm.
Yes, but how does that apply to a clone? They are 4 cylinders.

RPM + Aero doesn't quite level the playing field, but does count for a lot. As well as the fact it fires on every revolution.
As for the 18-20,000 rpm 4 strokes, an equal displacement 2 stroke would **** all over it. And when you divide 20,000 by 4 you get 5000. So the equal displacement 2 stroke firing 5000 times a minute would be roughly equivalent to the 4 stroke at 20,000 rpm. And the 2 stroke wouldn't be near redline either. (I could easily be wrong).
4-strokes however, offer a lot more when it comes to aftermarket modifications.
The bottom line is, that there is a lot to be said for the 49cc engines, and It's annoying when people knock on them without experience.

I think your math may be a little off.
A 4 cycle fires once every 2 revolutions.
A 2 cycle fires once on every revolution, or twice as often.
2 cycle at 5000 rpm = 5000 combustion cycles.
4 cycle at 5000 rpm = 2500 combustion cycles.

I own a Honda spree 50cc scooter, I am VERY VERY VERY familiar with the moped/scooter tuning thing.
There is no way in hell an air cooled 50cc engine no matter how hopped up will push even a little 100lb bike(100lb including engine, a bike with fairings) will hit more than 55-60 with any acceleration to write home about.
