I need to buy a new 41 chain

My question is, are they all the same length or do i actually have to measure mine?

I have a 10t/60t Setup

And should i go with MFGsupply, (slow shipping) or another company that you guys recommend

They come by the metre in australia or for u guys in 3 foot lengths or something. A metre will be plenty, just grind off the link where u want it cut and pry the link off. Keep the rest of the chain incase u need to lengthen it or something. I just got a new engine on mine and needed like 8 more links, that bit extra comes in handy. Saved me like 15 bucks in new chain.

So it's not a one size fits all kinda thing, but 3feet should be fine?

For several reasons most karts use different chain lengths. 3 feet should be long enough for most any kart but you could measure your old chain, or around your sprockets if necessary to be sure.

brendonv's method would work, or you can use a small punch to drive the links pin out at the correct length. Then use a master link to connect your chain together. (install your master link with the closed end leading in the direction of the chains rotation)

Another method is to use a chain breaker made for your #41 size chain to press the links pin out (at the correct length needed) and then press it back in to make a one piece chain without a master link. (this is how I do it and here's some for sale online: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-

Chain breakers are a great investment for your tool box. Saves alot of time fiddling with the chain itself and gets the job done in seconds.

Will the chain breaker also pop the pin back in so i can not use the master link, or will it only remove the pin...

And if not, how do you put pin back in

A chain breaker has 2 functions. It will push the links pin out (and then you could use a master link if you wanted) or a chain breaker will also push the link pin back in so you dont have to use a master link at all. You end up with a more trouble free chain this way.

A good quality chain breaker made for your size chain is designed to only push the pin out far enough to get that link apart. The pin will actualy stay in one side of the link.

master links r cheap so buy 1, grind the link and use a punch on them and they fall right off. simple as that. today i need like 3 feet of chain and i only had 2 short chains so i spliced them and grinded some links

I rode motorcycles for a LOT of years, and can't recall ever having a master link fail. The bikes I rode (especially with my fat arse on them) had quite a bit more weight and a LOT more horsepower than a kart.

My point being, I don't see where a riveted chain has any particular advantage over a master link system, and to my mind the master link is a lot easier to deal with, particularly if you have to take the chain off at some point.

yup use a master link and grind off the excess links on your chain. Most atv places sell chain for about 12 bux pre 3ft

Different Lowes stocks different chains. The one closest to me only stocks #40 chain and #40 master links. That's it, no other sizes, though they're happy to order it for ya.

Another Lowes about 20 minutes from here has two drawers dedicated to chains and links. #35, #41, #60 in stock, with the ability to order other sizes.

I found it interesting that they carry different stuff.
