Cdi?

Hi folks, I'm looking for a cdi unit for a zx600a engine, I have searched Google etc, many different ones are listed, are there a few that are shared between engines or am.i searching for the wrong thing ?

very likely since the kawasakis ZX series never used a CDI unit at all

IF you are looking to get the ignition module you're in for a treat..
what you are looking for is called "Ignitor" and a full fletched microprocessing unit rather than a dumb cdi

and that turns out to show in prices
(used ones easily cost 100-150 monetary units
[funny enough.. it really doesn't seem to matter much.. found 99 USD, 150 USD, as well as 100 GBP and 130 EUR])

And yes it's shared with the GPZ series for all I know (if the 600 is identical to the 750 version I can't tell)

PS ideally, make sue you KNOW what you want/need and don't just guess..
since otherwise you will spend alot of money without reason or benefeit.
get the kawa workshop manual or a verified wiring diagram at least.

Need help please.

Hey guys, I need help with wiring up a igniter for a Kawasaki zx600 engine, I.understand that the pins are 1-5 left to right, then 6-10 right to left, yes?

So I'm trying to figure out which pin connects to where, i cant really follow the colours as I'm particularly colour blind.

Help would be appreciated thanks in advance

you cannot estimate the numbering..
READ it..
each row of pins has at least One pin labelled
(faint, small but labelled!)

AS mentioned above..
I hope you got the right part (model and year of engine match?)
and it's in fact easiest to use the original wiring harness with all the original plugs..
then there's no way to mess it up on that side really

Ok guys n gals, progress so far, bought a original loom for the engine/bike, I have it all plugged in, power at the coils, but no spark an ideas please ?

Does it have a strong, charged battery?

Do you have any kill switches? If you do eliminate those as culprits.

Yes, fully charged battery, as for kill switches, all I have is the loom draped over the kart frame with temp connections to the power, just to see if if I can get a spark with the coils etc that I have.

Not familiar with bike engines but the GY6 has a magneto or stator that produces spark, it's under the flywheel. See if the testing procedures in this 150cc shop manual apply to your engine.

motorcycle engines can have a lot of protective switches..
and the younger a bike is, the more there are..

not uncommen even on older bikes likes this zx600a:
sidestand switch (non self folding sidestands have a switch that prevent the engine from running in gear)
means there's likely at least a neutral indicator circuit that's been tapped into (sometimes at the dashboard not the engine managment unit)
Another not uncommon switch is a clutch lever switch.
it NOT being in place and engaged means you cannot even run the starter motor.

and while there are several other such nasty switches.. you will only know if you check with the original manual I'm afraid.
you can find it used on amazon (35 bucks) and it's a good idea to have it
(it tells you how to repair/troubleshoot the engine when you need to)

At the very least you need a trustworthy wiring diagram for that particular motorbike it came from.
that way you can at least run through the wiring harness and know where to look for a faulty or missing signal.

PS winging it is only really advisable for people that know their ways around motorcycle engines well enough to know what to look out for as well as where and when..
if that's your first rodeo.. then the manual is the best 35bucks spent for this project.

I got my browns and my reds mixed up, easily done for me lol
