Ever looked at the price of a Prius? A first-gen's KBB value is somewhere in the neighborhood of $4k, and good luck finding one. Second generation will run you closer to $9k. A small Honda or Toyota will get nearly the same mileage at 2/3rds the price.

i finally got a car! 1995 BMW 325i. found it on craigslist this morning, and it sits in my driveway tonight! it runs great, got a good deal. its automatic but oh well

25mpg highway and 18 city!

now my old truck doesnt have to be a daily driver.

This forum needs a facepalm smiliey.

Just wait till parts start breaking on that car (which will be soon). If you can even find all of them, many are going to cost you an arm and a leg.

Personally I stay well away from european cars. almost 300km is pretty high too. As Devino said parts are expensive, not sure about second hand over there thou. It would pay to check the cooling system. They are nitorious for blowing head gaskets. Have done 3 in the past 3 years.

As long as you check it and maintain it, you should be sweet.

So wheres the next build? Manuel conversion, turbo, lowered, etc..

i checked the coolant, which was only a little below the line, so i topped off.

when i shut the car off a message comes up that says "check coolant level"

the car sits pretty low as it is, ive already bottomed it out

a manual conversion would be sweet!! but it'd be a lot of work. id have to replace the center console, add a clutch pedal, flywheel, who knows what else. i believe the engine's computer works with the transmission so it would get confused

the next build might be a mud truck. ill have to save up and by summer i can get a decent truck, and keep the car as a commuter and DD.

the insurance isnt too bad. not much more than my truck.

under the hood is a 2.5L inline 6. 184hp. its a small motor, so its good on gas, (i think 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway) and it's still pretty quick.

Nice, now just leave it alone, keep up on your maintenance but don't fall for the temptation of modifying stuff. I know that's a hard thing for people like us, but I'm realizing more and more that screwing with your DD is asking for trouble.

Sure, if the previous owner took good care of it, mechanically. If it wasn't well kept, though, he's looking for trouble.

its in decent shape. crossing my fingers it lasts...

bmw did a pretty good job making the car... theres not much i would modify.. maybe a better stereo and speakers but thats it. and the stock ones arent bad at all. also theres NO CUP HOLDERS up front..
