I had a dark blue '86 stang with a T-top and the 3.8v6. Unfortunately it was an automatic. Winter warning- get some good snow tires! I got into my first snowfall with some wide Firestone Street and Strips- the only way I could go up a hill was sideways- no matter how hard I tried!!! At the same time, my friend had an '85 with the 4-banger, and frankly it wasn't much better.

To be fair I do like the Shelby styled stangs and some of the newer renditions.

That is something important for him he might not have considered. Thunder needs to be looking at the tires when he buys these used cars, a good set of tires might set him back an extra 700 dollars if the ones on the car he buys are smoked.

iv got a mustang ill sell you its a 97 its blue it has the v6 with aotomatic everything works ecept the passengers side head light cause my uncle hit a deer with it it could use a paint job but runs great its got the v6 with pretty low mile like 125000 iv got a video of my brother driving it we were acting really dumb in the video tho

Same here, every one I see in a NEW mustang is a girl/woman. Now with the older muscle car style mustangs its a different story.

my parents want me to get a car that is CHEAP and RELIABLE but to only have about a year left in its life. i want to get something that is reliable(means it will last a while..) and good looking... after all i will be paying back 100% of it plus insurance myself... so looks like ill just be driving the truck for a while

If you want a cheap, reliable, decent looking domestic car look into a 91-96 Ford Escort. Their not terrible looking and they have decent power if you get the GT trim package (more HP). Best part is you can pull 35+ on the highway with the 5 speed.

I said the same thing three days ago but, nobody took any notice...

My vote is for a small 4 cylinder like a ford escort or toyota corolla: small, run on the smell of an oily rag & parts are a dime a dozen. Then you can actually save money to put into your truck, projects, etc

As for small fords being junk: I'm a Holden (GM) fan & when I was young I said I would never own a Ford or a front wheel drive. Guess what, I've owned two escorts (we call it a Laser over here) &, dollar for dollar, pound for pound, they were the best cars I've owned; almost bulletproof & go like the clappers

blue i think i would have to kind of side with your parents. i think you need a cheap reliable 4 cylinder car. i think you could probably pick up a car that would get you by for about $1500. you don't need or want something like a mustang. it will only get you in trouble.

I would recommend staying away from the DOHC motor. The parts for it are significantly more expensive.

Get a small 4 banger truck.

I am just a truck guy. You never know what you will find on your travels. Having a truck is a huge plus.

if you realy want to save money on gas etc. sell the truck. buy a small japanese car. get a towbar and a trailer for when you need to move stuff.

Have you looked into any sort of diesel? Get into the whole veggie oil thing, 10mpg wont be too bad... though, my brother mentioned some VW diesel getting some 30-40mpg today... free fuel and that kind of mpg sounds pretty good to me with the price on the stuff...


What kind of MPG does your truck get?

from what i have seen online my truck was advertised get 13 city and 16 highway. dont know what it really is because my odometer is broken

actually, driving the truck to work was not bad. hopefully no major problems come up. got some injector cleaner and hopefully it will help the misfire.

a car is on hold for now...

13-16mpg seem like it might be right. my dad did 21mpg with his 95 f150 2wd 4.9l 5spd last time he did all highway driving. you should fix your speedometer to to figure out what you are getting.

nope. right up until ford ditched the laser and escort and replaced both with the focus in 98-99.

Nice to know someone is actually considering a manual car instead of a auto, people these days are gradually enjoying less of a driving experience than before.

Hondas are a good choice, but don't get anything smaller than a 1.6 or you'll have a mule instead of a car.... doesn't run, it drags itself lol.
