Whatever you get keep in mind that there will be trade offs. If you're looking for good gas mileage get something small like a cavalier with a manual. I don't know why "sexyvicta" doesn't like them, but my fried has one and it's really good on gas mileage and very reliable.

Don't get a dodge car, especially one from the '80s. They are notorious for their crappy transmissions. I can't really say anything about hondas, toyotas, and such because I prefer older american cars. And don't get something sporty like a mustang, your insurance will go through the roof.

Don't think because you're 16 that you won't need the extra money down the road. I'm only 18 and I already wish I had saved more money when I was younger. Remember, even the best laid out plans in life don't always work out, so don't think that you have everything planned out.

Sorry for the rambling but I have a few more things to say. Whatever you do, don't get a lifted vehicle as your second vehicle because your insurance rate will be very high, gas mileage low, and you will be buying replacement parts like balljoints all the time.

Be very careful in buying the vehicle as well. Bring someone with you who knows alot about cars because I can't count the number of times somebody has tried to pull a fast one on me by not telling the truth about the car.

If you do find something you like, tell us and we will be able to steer you straight.

i really like the look of those extended cab Toyota trucks but i think blue may need a 4 cylinder car that gets 34mpg if he is going to driving to school or work and back. then he can keep his truck for personal use. i know i got my ram charger that i use for driving to work and back which is all hiway and i got my 81 ram150 for running around town. i saved about $160+/month by driving my ram charger on the hiway instead of my 81.

school is going to pay for my gas. (well $.55 per mile).

got my license today! spent all day driving around and doing stuff. i got so much freedom now!

i dont know why but i seem pretty set on a mustang....

i dont think im gonna get another pickup because i need one vehicle for that and one for commuting/daily driving

so i asked my friend with a BMW how easy parts are to come by and the costs... he said stay far away from them it will be a money pit....

also got some rough estimates from the insurance company and its not too bad... ill probably save more in gas anyways.

a 98 honda civic is only about $60 less to insure than a 95 mustang(iirc, but i have them written down) and a 98 civic is the same in$urance as a 95 318i BMW by a few dollars

It may not be fun but it is way more practical for city driving
Driving a manual is crap in rush hour

Is this really a car u are getting for fun or just a commuter car
If it is a commuter I'd go for auto
They are much smoother in the city

If u go manual I'd definitely go for the smaller jap cars with a large rev range

My deisel manual has a practical range of 1500 to 3000
Gotta change 4 times to get to 80kph
Get beaten to 80 by the public transport busses Somtimes because they are mercedes auto

Manual in traffic isn't too bad. I drive in heavy traffic and have yet to get annoyed by the car. My RPM range is anywhere from 1,200 to 4,000+, though.

my 300 i6 doesnt go very far past 2,000 rpm ever. just before or at 2k is when you need to shift. it makes a ton of torque in the 1,000's range. almost like a diesel.

yes a manual sucks in traffic. in an auto you just let off the brake and creep forward. but in a manual you have to keep slipping the clutch over and over. but i have only driven a manual truck.... not a car before, so the shifter throw and RPM is going to be a lot different. id assume a car is much easier because it weighs so much less

I dont get annoyed by mine but once I sent mine in to get the aircon fixed and borrowed a friends auto
Did the same route I alway do to work and took 5 min off the 20 min trip
just because of all the roundabouts nere my house

If I had more room I'd get a small car for the speed and tight turning circle
And put more time into getting my current ute better for the beach

Well to you, who knows. like you said you learned in that heavy truck. so who knows. may be harder to you.

But id say automatic. saves you the worry of shifting. Although to some they simply hate driving automatic.

But A clean automatic. maybe a sporty style. but id look for a Mitsubishi Lancer or eclipse. Awesome cars. look good depending on the year. and can be made very sporty. also since its technically not a sports car. no extra pay.

In all seriousness, are you looking for a practical commuter car to get you to and from work/school easily, cheaply, and reliably, OR are looking for a car to get you to work/school that is extra fun to drive, and looks a little more interesting. I can't say I feel like a jeep or mustang fit the bill of practical commuter car, as much as a fun car.

Its deep seeded. My good friend and fraternity brother had a red Mustang. It really was a nice car, however each time I saw it at a friends house immediately when I saw it, I began to think "I wonder whose girlfriend is over at the house."

My girlfriend even asked me the same thing on several occasions.
