I'm thinking something like this as a starting point.
There's room at the rear for the parachute, and as it has one hand steering you can use the other to pull the cord on the 'chute when you go for the record.
I'd probably use Harbor Freight wheels though, save a few bucks.

Car engine in go kart

I have been told that I am quite the insane person as when I originally started this go kart project I was going to use four chainsaws but then this car engine seemed like the much more dangerous choice so I am going for it. Let' just say money is not going to be a problem up to a justifiable point as I am buying the car whole and then striping it but I will be taking it for cheeky test drive. Currently I have a racing kart chassis that I am about to hack up to make space for the car drivetrain. Also there is no official record for wheel driven go karts except for that electric one which is in a different division. It is going to look badass with a front mount radiator and oil cooler. An alternative for the rx8 would be a bmw 325i e46 and then putting a turbo on it to make 300 hp but I would be using a car axle and rear wheels so it would be able to put the power down. the torque would rip up a wooden frame so I am using metal. I will start posting picture in September as that is when I am buying the rx8 and then beginning the project. I don't know if would should put harnesses on the carbon kevlar seat, it might ruin its beauty. After I make it I plan to take it to runway drag racing and make MINCEMEAT of super cars plus I am going to put on drag radials and I will be able to do proper burnouts because the rear axle won't have any brakes strapped on. Any thoughts?

Thoughts...

I like crazy...

BUT...

you're going to use an existing kart frame, weighs what 100pds?

You're going to hack said frame extending it...

You're going to then drop another what 5-600 pounds on it, if not more?

PLUS the driver...

Then on top of this you're wanting to cut corners and use motorcycle brakes...

That's not crazy, that's just plain.... I'll stop there.

If money isn't an issue then actually design a frame to handle that power. Don't hack up a frame that will more than likely turn into a pretzel when you mash the gas...

Use proper materials, big tubing, and tons of bracing.

Full runs of tubing, bent where need be, and gussets on all intersecting pieces that you can put them on. Don't hack a small tube race frame and expect it to be fine.

Sid posted a vid of a "kart" with a car engine. You know what I see there? A custom made frame, using large tubing, and somewhat properly braced, at least enough to handle not twisting up.

Jmo, but do it safe, do it right, or don't do it at all.

I know the engine will weigh a bit more than an r1 and we will be going for the full roll cage that you saw in that fast and furious 6 film I am pretty sporty so im light so big power and little weight will be todays motto.

While your at it fill out your profile so we know where you are. Also post some info like age, mechanical skills, welding abilities, kart experience, etc

As to a record for "Wheel driven go karts", Mike Clements ran 144.832 in 1992....with a Tecumseh powered kart, so you're gonna have to at least beat that.
The reason there isn't a record for karts with a car engine on a go kart chassis is because:
A) No one has set one yet.
1a) No one has been that crazy yet.
There's always a first time.
My advice is make sure your life insurance policy is paid up before you try.

Well, I do have access to a drag mower than will run in the 120's with the right gearing and a really light person driving it...

It has a Tecumseh that runs off of alcohol.

If you were in Texas, I'd try to hook you up.

But that's the most I'd do. If I were to make a kart with a car engine, it would be that VW.

This go kart, if all goes to plan should be able to hit more than 200 mph and yes I am kinda crazy when it comes to going fast in a straight line :)
