A usable Lawn-Boy. Not all of them (prior to 1998) can be converted
About $50 or so of aluminum.
If you want to use a centrifugal clutch, figure around another $130.
A diaphragm carb can be anywhere from $35 to over $100.
A 1/4" keyway has to be cut into crankshaft. Rather expensive to have a machine shop do it. I cut my own (special thanx to Mr. Kibble).
Strong mechanical ability and patience are paramount.

Only 2 of us in this forum have been working on these.
I've lost count as to how many I have done. Around 6 or 8. Some have yet to be tested.
It is definitely more than worth the effort.
These will bury any equivalently sized 4 cycle.

if you want a 2 stroke why not just use a snowblower engine? I had a 4.5 hp two stroke tecumseh that already had the keyway and was designed for horizontal shaft.

Lol machinist buddy....Not alot of people have a buddy like that. I know I certainly do! and it would only take about 15 mins to make a adapter. For that matter he already has a bunch of sled clutch post's made so just turn it down a bit more in a lathe and there you go.

It takes some work, but it's more time consuming than anything else. It's not difficult, but takes patience. If you really wanna do it and have the resources, by all means, go for it! I got mine almost done, just need a few more parts and I'll be ready to test it out. There will, of course, be a video of it in action!
