Thanks Kentucky Boy.

I actually did a combination of wet sanding with 220 grit on a flat surface then freezing the wrist pin. It was still slightly tight, but I used a flat tip to get the clip to seat.

So my head porting and polishing is going well. Since this is my first try, I'm going somewhat conservative on the job:

Question, Since I'm porting the head, will I need larger jets for the carburetor? And if so, what size jets should I order?

Look up on spark plug test. It tells weather the mix is lean/rich based on colour and other factors on the plug... (It's a bit to write)

Start the stock and take a fine number drill set, gauge the hole first. Then select the next size up and try again...till the right results you need..

Well, to quote Jamie Hyneman, "There's your problem!"

I dug out the old piston this morning. The new piston is considerably larger then the old one.

I'm going to contact the seller to see if they have a shorter one. But is it possible to grind down and polish the new one?

I'd get the right piston.
If you clearance that new one you will change the weight of it and it won't be balanced. The engine will shake like a misloaded washer in the spin cycle.

It's a bit worn:

Since a new piston with rings was $10.00, I figured what the Hades. I should have kept things simple! The old one should be serviceable until I get in touch with the seller.

Is it smooth? Do you have a set of calipers that will size that? If it's smooth and straight I'd run it.

The first pic is the real way to measure but I found the second searching for a pic.

Kinda neat aren't they?

LOL, the second pair look like something from the 1800"s!

The original piston seem smooth. I think that the marks are just a stain form the water being in the cylinder. I sanded it with 1200 grit and I'm assembling the motor now. Hopefully I can start it up tomorrow.

BTW, it's 0.010 for the valves, right?

Grrrrr!!! Argh!!!! WTF?!?! I seem to have two timing marks on my crankshaft:

You can't tell from the photo, but both are the same!
