update: steering is complete now.. also finished the tie rods. re-inforced the frame in a couple of areas.. bottom and the back(the 'V' between the B pillars). also built a battery box/cover. only a couple of more things to do, then it's time for a test drive.

frame re-inforcements in rear:

battery box( built from sheet metal... turned out better than i thought it would):

battery box on with switches in it:

that's it for now. thanks for looking.

Thanks Team... now that is a great idea! too funny... lol

speaking of 'thanks'... what is the etiquette for using it on this board? when someone gives a compliment? or when someone helps you out? i've thanked everyone for their comments... just wondering.

It's for when someone helps you out in some way, whether it be by answering a question you asked or by writing a tech article that you find informative or could be useful to you or in some other way.

EDIT: I freaking love your project! I've been keeping an eye on this one, very similar to something I started building ages ago. A sort of small, utility quad. Very nice fab work and design, the frame looks very professionally done. :cheers2:

oh, ok... thanks for clarifying that for me. appreciate it. and thanks for the compliment on the frame. the first one i built, i drew a couple of drawings on a piece of paper... and went after it. This time... made changes as i went. got lucky with how it turned out.

got the engine in and the torque converter all hooked up... along with the throttle and chain. wired up the electric start. Doesn't run good at all, i think i might have put bad gas in it. crap. anyways... also got the hydro brake set up and working properly.

i was having an issue with my throttle cable sticking out until i decided to use a piece from my mtn bike. I had this little piece on the rear derailuer of my mtn bike years ago... took it off and it's been in my parts bin ever since. glad i could find a use for it.

now my cable goes straight down instead of sticking out. good stuff.

so... my list has gotten down to the details somewhat:

-build brackets for aluminum foot pegs.
-wire head lights
-wire brake lights
-wire LED lights
-build either spare tire carrier or cooler holder
-cut a top to fit

it will be time for a test ride soon. then powdercoating. still trying to decide if i want to go with metallic orange or candy apple green for color... any opinions?

B.M., what color would you put on it? other than those options...

yeah, i'll probably build a small trailer... shouldn't be too hard. it can double as a yard work trailer too, i guess.

wheels- great looking buggy, could you post some pics of your starting mech. You said it has an electric start? Is this a custom or a factory job?

guys, i'm not sure what size thickness the battery box is... but, it is definitely heavy. it's what i had laying around. :D

mckutzy, the starter came with the motor... mounts on the side. i'll take a pic this weekend and show ya.

ok, i just couldn't wait to get the pegs and electrics on... before test riding it. so... i got the front tires mounted on the original front rims from the 4 wheeler donor this morning. slapped them on and off i went.

a couple of things i noticed:
1. faster than the first campground cruiser i built.
2. a ton more torque(not worried about being able to pull a trailer now).
3. can actually ride wheelies(surprised me when i gave it full throttle... ended up scratching the rear hoop on the pavement)
4. smaller than the first campground cruiser.

anyways... mckutzy, sorry for the delay.. but, here is a pic of the starting unit:

as you can see, it's just like any other starting setup that comes standard.

and here are more pics:

added the beer bottle to this for size reference:

now I can break it down, put the light mount tabs, cooler rack(or spare tire), top and then clean the welds... and it will be ready for powder coat.

lol i figured you had a color in mind. if i wouldn't have done white on the first one, i'd do it on this one. thanks for the compliment.
