Ok, so you guys probably know that Carsandcameras recently took a very low quality small diesel engine and put it on an Azusa Road Rocket chassis. So out of curiosity, I searched up "diesel small engine" on Ebay to see what they paid for it(about $650).
And I saw THIS!(see picture)

THAT IS TOO GOOD!!!

A company advertising their product as low stability!!!

Maybe they should've written "Low Noise, High Stability"???


I literally laughed until I started hacking when I read that!!

I’ve seen those videos, even though the flywheel seems to be pretty hazardous and the intake manifold wasn’t sealed it seems to be a decent running little engine.

I've never been a fan of diesels, and I especially hate the old fords. You know, the ones with the little tiny turbos that scream in your ear when idling. But they just don't have the rpm that I like/require/demand.

Yeah, it's supremely sketchy, and I do NOT trust the craftsmanship, but it sure is fun to watch!!
The leaky intake manifold actually isn't such a big deal on that diesel, given that the fuel is injected instead of being drawn in through a carburetor, but it's still bypassing the air filter!

I'm kind of 50/50 between diesels and gas, my dad's car is a diesel, and I like it. Plus, the legendary Mercedes 4 banger has been known to go over a million miles(past 4M in a few cases) and just keep chugging, so diesel definitely doesn't hurt reliability! So yeah, I like gas, and I like diesel, just for different reasons.
Gas is cheaper though.....

It's a Chinese variant of the Yanmar L100 diesel. They really have no idea what they are doing, with any of their builds, sad to say but it's true. They probably would have had better luck buying brand new from Carroll Stream, because at least then they would possibly have technical support and maybe a warranty for the shoddy Chinese flywheel.

This is what you get when you listen to Keyboard Engineers (same thing with Keyboard commandos, Keyboard Warriors, etc). I only watch them for the content so I'm not bored at work. I dont take them too seriously.

Yeah, I mostly watch for entertainment, there's not much technical or procedural information that really should be followed.
It is quite fun to see projects like the diesel kart, the Black Widow, and the Ducarti, but those are also some of the sketchiest projects.

If they didn't use Miata rear suspension and built the dang thing right, the CrossKart would be my favorite project. But it lacks ground clearance. The Ducati kart, was only done for a TV special, I did actually catch it at the time it was released and I enjoyed. Just wish John did a better job of editing, rather than doing the constant slap on the lens for cuts. The dragrail, I feel like should have been a rear engine and not front engine design. Wouldn't have so many chains running around on a jackshaft to the rear axle.

I just wish they put more thought and planning rather than spur of the moment build, like the diesel kart or the KT100 mini bike.

When I actually have a shop or garage. Can't do much in an apartment unfortunately. Once I have a house, I'll have room for the steel needed and I'll have my first project built. I have a good portion of the parts to get started, but I still have a lot more to get.

I actually think that Ike really knows how to do things right, and John can do pretty good work too. I think it’s more of a matter of needing to jam out two videos a week, so they do what they can in the time that they have. I think they do pretty good, and I suspect that the skill set for both of them far exceeds what we see on the channel.

I would tend to agree with this. The pressure they are under to get videos out lends to them doing things slapdash with no real forethought and planning

Yes, but they are still wondering why their first predator blew the rod. Could have something to do with using 7000rpm springs with a rod that blows at 6k. Though some of their earlier builds were done better, like the rat rod wagon. I'm still waiting for the dragrail 670 teardown they said they were doing. I guarantee the plain mains lost oiling with the stock oil pump, and seized.

Yeah, well we've had plenty of members on here that have run heavier springs with a stock rod, and several still recommend it to newbies looking for speed. So it's not like they were the first ones to blow up a Predator with a stock rod.
When I was talking to Ike at Pate earlier this year, he actually said that the rail engine isn't seized, but he also didn't say what DID happen. I still want to see that video when they post it.
I'm actually quite impressed with the Cross Kart, I think they did a pretty darn good job, given that they had to build the front suspension from scratch and adapt Miata suspension. Just not a huge fan of the PVC intake, I'd still like to see them make a proper steel one, or just go back to the factory quad carbs.

My first turbo car had a PVC charge pipe, and it was undefeated in the 2007 season. I was definitely outspent, but never outran. If it works, it works.

Well the guy does work on imports as a career I think they really dial it back to be poor man's builders on a budget. If they had a bigger budget to work with for each build and they took their time like they did with the drag rail and Crosskart, they would be close to on par with Red Beard. I honestly prefer Red Beard's garage for builds.

Yeah, but he does some questionable things. Like how he insists that it's fine to use an impact to drive a bolt into an untapped hole in the block (ex, the governor rod and shaft holes, and the low oil sensor hole). I'd rather take 3 minutes to tap the hole before I thread in a bolt, than risk cracking the block.

And rather b welding would rather buy and install a bigger engine, than fix the root problem... the gearing.

Rather B Welding barely made enough room for a jackshaft to accomplish lower gearing. On top of that, you compare how he rides to his older friend who rides it, he doesn't get the engine up in the powerband before he shifts, he lugs a street bike engine. I do agree, people need to tap the governor hole and then thread the bolt in. Itll hold better and is more professional and less of a hack job.

I still don't know why he does that. I mean, every other part of the engines and karts he builds is totally rad, yet he doesn't tap those holes. But at least he never forgets that pesky washer. Though he has learned the hard way about 670 fuel leaks. Remember the fireworks a few years ago.

And yeah, chris does keep those things in the lower rpm. If I ran my dads raptor 660 like that, something wouldn't be happy. I'm not sure whether it'd be the bike, the people behind me, or me while I'm stuck on the side of the trail.

Don't forget Vasily Custom Builds when his 670 throttle stuck open and plowed into the house early this year. Hes doing dual Mikuni carbs on his newest 670 build. I have no ill will against these guys, just have my gripes about them. Though one other channel I'm starting to watch a bit more is Moto Mule.
