Build Off Entry mini buggy

Im completing my mini trail buggy for this contest. This used to be a yerfdog spiderbox that i cut down the middle and made into a single seater. It will have irs in the rear and dual a arms in the front. For a doner i have a 2005 kfx 400 5spd w/reverse. Enjoy

Got started on the front end today and it is alot of work! Here is a little teaser of whats going on, will have more over the weekend stay tuned.

I got one side of the a arms completely mounted and ready to go but i ran out if 1/4" plate so i have to go pick some up. I notice on the quad frame that the a arm tams are pretty thin and weak so thats how i decided on 1/4 plate i dont want to be stranded as i beat the crap out of this thing. on to the pictures, i still have lots of work to do.

As you can see i still need lots of work to add in supports and tie the whole thing together but the good thing is i have 12" ground clearance once i get in itll be around 10.5" to 11" i am more than happy with that

Well i got a little update. Since the last time i posted i have gone to the water jet and cut some mounts for the a arms as i didnt like the way the ones i cut by hand fit. Now i need to come up with some shock mounts and brace up the front as best as i can. One big problem that i was homing to avoid was the steering. I am going to have to flip the spindles and have front steer and reverse acronym other than that everything is piecing together nicely.

one thing you COULD have done for the steering if you had planned ahead is to use this common tried and true method - mounting the top a-arm up high and using a tube to attach the steering arm and spindle to - which would have put the rack n pinion up over your feet (if you're using rack n pinion).

i've thought about using this design, but it looks pretty elaborate, and doesn't seem to have much room for adjustment.

Yea it was my stupid iphone sorry guys i meant reverse ackermann. Mysteryboy i was thinking about that but i just dont like that suspension for some reason it seams weak/a pain to adjust. I think i am just going to face the fact that the easiest way to get this done and having many parts be replaceable is having the reverse ackermann. I just feel like if i can use as many pre-manufactured parts i can replace them easily if needed.

Got some bracing done today just need shock mounts and steering for the front then just a bunch more bracing, pedals, and shifter then its on to the rear end and hopefully in the next month or two its maiden voyage!

finished tying up the front end and took the buggy outside so i could clean up the garage. I also made paper cutouts for the shocks and sent them to the water jet so i can hopefully get those soon. Next is steering.

Got my pedals done. They took forever but i am happy with the way they feel/look. If you pay close attention you can see the gas and brake are closer together than the brake and clutch. Also i left some more space between the frame and the clutch pedal for a foot rest.

Nice job on the pedals. is it easier to mount them from above like that? All the buggies ive seen have them set up similarly to this. Why not mount em on the floor like traditional karts? Is it leverage mabey...

Its a little harder to do imo but i just think it looks alot cooler and its more comfortable to drive
