i have both and was wondering which to build first. for higher hp, it is recommended to start with a genuine honda {or so the engine builders (agk, nr, gecker etc) say}. as far as i can tell, the 6.5 has a longer stroke; is it in the rod or piston?. any idea if these pistons can be turned down. the low comp (dished) ones. how many rpm are the stock honda fly's good for?

Neither, not worth it to mod a clone, bike engine can/will be in the same price range with Better performance all around.
yes, i am aware kap'n, but as i have them and some parts, which should i invest in? i have my ody, a suzuk 80cc atv, gsxr, scat cat, etc. i can always find cheap bike/atv engines that run. i would like to try my hand at building one. and i still haven't found out what size my jetski motor is. it's a rotax twin.

Once you run a nice engine in your kart, you won't go back to an industrial engine. If money isn't an issue and u wanna do it or the fun of buildin the engine, than go for it, but from an Economical point of view it's not worth it.
Id go with the clone. More cc's means more potential power. I'd get a high compression head, billet rod, arc flywheel,flat top piston, a torque cam, header bent for torque and a 22mm mikuni. If its going on an offroad kart all that torque would be nice. But that's just me if I had the money lol
the main reason i ask is my new off-road kart/buggy is trying to eat the belt on the tav. i figure with more power, it won't. not trying to make a 60hp or anything, just something for the kids that will be reliable and cheap. granted they will have to grow into this thing. it climbed some hills that my 80cc t/s will jump, but there was belt dust all over the motor. i don't plan on buying a bunch of tav belts for their fun.
im building my gx160 for the same reason. i figured im just got stick with gx160 because of it's quality and dependability. im sure if you do the upgrades that NJOHC stated you'll get the poer your looking for. or else just switch the parts opverto the colne as most fit both engines.

Lol, Not always true.
My stock 1982 Xl125 dirtbike makes 13 Hp at 9500 RPM and would smoke a mod'd clone in a kart/mini bike anyway.

Apples to oranges comes to mind, but it's true that general purpose engines can't hold a flame to motorcycle engines.
Gear it similar to what we gear our karts, keep it in that gear, and race one of us.

would still win, and be cheaper to get than modding a clone to do anywhere near that hp/rpm.

It is always true. There is no replacement for displacement. If your dirtbike had 250 cc it would have more potential.
Yea,those are two totally differently built engines for two totally different purposes. Compare the subaru ex27 to the ex30. Those are two identical engines. Same cam, carb and everything. But the ex30 is 45 or so cc's bigger making an underrated 9.5hp vs the 9 of the ex27. More cc's will always equal more potential.

I agree Kaptain, And Eagle Talons, For sure. But I could race a gx390 13 hp motor in a kart with my 125 cc 13 HP with double the 390's rpm.

And a friend of mine has some big old diesel lister engines that displace 2200cc and make an astonishing...........wiat for it............ 3hp at 600rpm

Nowmatter what you could get more power from a GX200 than from a 100cc 4 stroke bike motor every could. Would it be worth it? no. it would take a ton of money, but it could be done.
