I'm trying to design my cage. I already have the basic shape in mind, but I can't decide how to bend up the pipe, for the best strength, and weight, with the least amount of cutting or bending. Each different color is an individual tube. Feel free to add your own suggestions.
Option 1:

Option 2:

I would think two would be good enough but one would definitely be stronger. Both should weigh almost exactly the same. I would just go with the second one.

I've already bought the round pipe, like I used for the rest of the cage. Square tubing is waaay too fvcking expensive.

that's gonna be sweet as hell when you get done with it. if you all don't mind me asking, what is everyones ages ? I''m 28. Anyhow, I see apparently when you guys talk about building a kart, you mean from the ground up. I wish I had all the tools for that so I could jump on that bandwagon. Seems like it would be a great accomplishment. sorry for interrupting by the way.

Never mind what i said. I thought the first one included a tube going down form where the green and blue ones meet to the lower part.

So ya the second one is definitely stronger.

As for the age question, I'm 15, building this kart with the money I made working for the City this summer. The only tools I needed before I started this project were a welder, grinder, and a corded drill. All the other tools I had before were mostly woodworking tools.

make sure you do something about those shock mounts.
Holy. Mother. ****ing. Jesus. I HEARD ABOUT IT 123456789 POSTS AGO.

14 And have done alot from MIG welding, Building billet race engines, all he way to CNC Milling and on the Lathe. Not your average 14 year old.

wow, that's very impressive. how do you have access to all that stuff anyhow, is your dad a machinist or something ? I wish I would have been able to get hands on experience like that when I was your age... maybe then I would actually know a hell of a lot more than I do now about this stuff... I'm just getting started. ;)
