Welp my briggs collection has grown quite a bit
I need help im dying here. This briggs 3.5hp on an indy give away kart (has body and wing yay) is having issues. Its air vein governor is causing the engine to run really horrible and makes it cut out an die all the time. How do i bypass the air vein governor its annoying i wanna go faster and make my engine run right i already put 35$ in parts on the go kart. How do i change the linkages and springs to make it directly operate the butterfly

I heard someone on here(I think it was Orange Krate) made their own solution. He put a slotted hole in the stop portion of the butterfly linkage(the bit that limits travel), and just directly hooked up the throttle cable to it with a bolt holding it in. At least that's what I remember, but it makes sense.

Just got my china slide 19mm carb to put on the 5hp i am crank swapping and i plan on trying to "shave the brow" and other stuff while the motor is apart and i also have an awesome race pipe for it but the indy kart is gone so i need to focus on other projects
Also is it possible to put a ball bearing and side cover on a non ball bearing crank?

The screw on the circle I made is the complete bypass.

Loosen screw put outer cable in slot and then attach inner to throttle piece on carb.

Engine locked up while trying to run it beat the cam up i thunk it had the timing off. But i put the timing on the cam and crank right idk. I replaced the cam with the one from the engine the crank came from. So now i changed the coil 3 times and now it runs but only at wot because the carb is from a smaller briggs so its out of tune. Anyway its getting a slide carb so kewl.

The official rod cap torque spec is 100 in/lbs, so 8 ft/lbs is just about right.

Also, the ball bearing requires an arbor press to remove, and the bearing has to be heat-fitted.

It can be heated on by using a hot plate....
I know it sounds off... Believe it or not... Ive put large bearings on for large electric motors with this method.

Heat the bearing till a light sprinkle water skittles about on the surface, Kinda like on a frying pan when you know its hot enough....
Setup the shaft for where it needs to go....Use some thick gloves and a rag, Slip it on quickly.

Might need a piece of pipe for the inner race to hammer it on fully if it doesnt seat the first time....

Ah yes, the interference fit. I've done some pretty crazy fitups that way. Lovejoy gear coupler to a 4" diameter gearbox shaft. Coupler half went in the BBQ grill at 350° for 2 hours, and I cut a 4" hole in a styrofoam cooler, stuck it over the shaft, and filled it with crushed dry ice. .005" interference fit went together like butter.

Did another similar one to put a 10" diameter 18 tooth spur gear on a similar gearbox.

Same for bullwheel shaft bearings on ski lifts.

Works awesome but you'd better be darn sure it's in the right spot on the first try. 😆

Yup... At the motor shop we had a growler bearing heater so that went better... but at the machine shop we had the old hot plate....
Alot more sketchier with the hot plate... Growler was nice to have...

Ironically enough....SKF makes a hotplate for heating a bearing...
