Briggs and Stratton CR950 pressure washer engine for go-kart

I have a Briggs and Stratton CR950 engine that came off a pressure washer I was given. The engine is practically brand new. I am wanting to put it on a go-kart for my daughter but I cannot figure out how to get the throttle to work. I know normally pressure washers run at 1 constant RPM the entire time, but obviously the go-kart can’t do that. Anyone have any knowledge, tips, tricks, pictures, videos, etc on how I can make this work?

Even constant RPM engines have a governor. Governors use centrifugal weights to control the throtthe through a lever and a spring. Find that spring and look for a way to pull on that sping to move that lever. Pictures and we can show you the solution.

Lol I should have said we need a pic of the top of the engine also. We can show you where to hook up the cable then.

Should be a metal throttle arm that if followed closer to the engine, will reveal cable tie downs. There are usually two.

In my picture, red clamps the cable sheeth and green clamps the cable. I think my picture is reversed so the orientation may be wrong but thats the idea of what you want to do.

AI tells me it has a straight shaft. -But then it goes on to say pressure washers use a straight shaft soooo......

Thinking about it now, I think its garden tillers and snow blowers that have the tapered shaft. It makes sense that the higher torque output machines would need the tapered shaft.

Generators use tapered shaft. To my knowledge, only generators and some chipper/shredders use tapered shaft.
In the OP photo, I believe we are looking at where the throttle control will need to be swapped or modified. The thing that looks like a lever with an idle speed screw...that is the speed control that pulls the spring attached to the governor arm.

Maybe Briggs made an RV type tyhrottle kit? Check partstree.com with your engine numbers.

Im looking for a parts diagram, but CR950 seems to be the pressure washer. Can you give us the engine type, code or any other numbers off of the engine? Is it a 163 or 208cc engine?

How DIY capable are you? You will need to make provisions for reliable throttle actuation. Unless you just wanna buy the bracket in post 10.

See the L shaped bracket with the tiny spring hooked into it? The governor actuates that. Its at WOT right now, which is normal when its off. Once you start the engine, that bracket will rotate CW. THEN rotating it CCW will give it throttle. If you dont wanna buy the bracket, youll have to figure out how to get that L shaped guy to rotate.

Remove the gas tank and give us a top-down picture and we can give you ideas.

So I found an old throttle mechanism off a Predator 212 I had built a while ago. I think I have it right. I feel like it needs something else I’m missing

I think youre missing the spring that goes from the throttle lever to the governor arm. I think...

You may need to strip away just a tiny bit more insulation on the throttle cable.

Dont forget to adjust the throttle stop after its running. Or remove it.

So the throttle arm doesn’t hit the sheath/conduit before it reaches full travel, make sure the cable clamp is holding just the end of the sheath or 1/8” or so is poking out.

Clone means clone. Part interchange is sometimes bobbling and sometimes bewildering.
