I have a Briggs 5hp that does really well with minor modifications. If I were to build another kart with a Honda Clone, what should I expect. I also wanna see people post what motors they have and what they've done to them and how they perform just so I can compare all of the different options. Thanks in advance. :auto:

Since most Briggs flatheads are quite old and used, the clone will obviously have a bit more power than most. I find the clone runs smoother also. BUT, if you take into consideration that briggs from 30-40-50 years ago still run, that shows the quality of them. You cant yet judge a clone because they haven't been around that long. I don't think they would last nearly as long as a briggs would though. I just got a clone going and the thing was already falling apart. I like the briggs more because of simplicity and the proven quality. If i was to make a cart with a small engine, i wouldn't use a 4 stroke, 2 strokes are much better.

That's like asking why does blueberry pie taste so much better than dog sh!t? 2 strokes are much simpler, higher revving, high performance out-of-the-box engines. Put a stock briggs 5 horse on light cart, and put a stock say lawnboy engine on another cart, the lawnboy will pass it by 15-20 MPH. 2 strokes are much easier to get power out of, that's why i love them.

Hey be easy on him! He's new and asked a reasonable question. But it's true you can mod a 2 stroke for penny's if you know how to port.

since when is blueberry pie better ? you just haven't found the right dog apparently... anyhow, are the 2 strokes already set up like a 4 stroke ? like will they mount right up to a kart the same way ? aren't they much more expensive though ? I know they're simpler and all that, but what about durability and all that good stuff ?
