Briggs 3.5hp plastic cam ?

Disassembled a 3.5 hp horizontal shaft briggs today - 2000 vintage - to my surprize ...Plastic camshaft. So I have a couple questions 1. The crankshaft gear has lots of play/slop..normal? 2. Are there replacement metal cams/gears available?

Play in the crank gear is not normal. I'd replace it. Just search up on Ebay "briggs 3hp camshaft" and pick one. They're everywhere!
