Hi, I have a couple of questions about my Briggs 250. Ive had the engine on a mini bike for about 8 months now and it runs great with a torque converter, but I want to go to a clutch. It has a 1” output shaft and I can only find a 14 tooth clutch for 420 chain. (My rear tire is 23” tall) I’m trying to figure out what rear sprocket would be best with the 14 tooth clutch? Thank you much and have a great day

84 tooth. Seriously, that won't work. Why change to a clutch?
Bike keeps cooking belts like there free. I got a good belt from go power sports and it killed it in 3 weeks. The belt that came with the torque converter was dead in a month and all other ones sucked

I used to have a 30 series on my stock 301 it probably makes as much power as yours does and it would blow through any belt I put on it. I guess if you really wanted to you could switch to a clutch but then you could only drive on the road I would just get a 40 series

It is only a street bike. That’s what it is

Thank you man I appreciate it. I’ve tried looking for a 10 or 12 before but I can’t find one that will work with the 1” output shaft

That is only 4:1. That will never work with a 23” tire. Go to a 60 tooth, you’ll be surprised at the performance upgrade!
That’s the issue I can’t find a 420 chain 60 tooth sprocket in my price range and that’s drilled for my hub adapter

BMI, Azusa, MFG Supply, GoKart Supply, GoPower Sports, OMB Warehouse and probably many others I can’t think of. You may have to drill your own. But that will fix your problem along with using a GENUINE COMET BELT!

2 things
1: I don’t have the facility’s to drill my own sprocket
2: IVE USED A GENUINE COMET BELT BEFORE

Have a machine shop do it for you if you have to.

THEN USE A GENUINE COMET BELT AGAIN!!!!! We have used all different kind of belts. They are the ones that last the longest and work the best.
Ok but none of this answers my main question. Clutch gear ratios. I’m starting to think about a jack shaft

Anyone who has any actual real world experience will tell you the same things.
1. There are no centrifugal clutches for a 1” shaft with a 10 tooth sprocket. Or even a 12 tooth for that matter.
2. Centrifugal clutches are no where near robust enough to hold up to your application. They need to be run at full throttle all the time.
3. The advantages of a CVT (torque converter) is the infinite number of gear ratios to help get your bike moving.
4. The 30 series is more than capable of holding up to the power you are making as long as you treat it right. (Gear ratios, quality belt, properly cleaned and lubed with dry graphite.)
5. If you don’t agree with my advice that’s ok, wait for someone else to come by and ask them.

I hope I have answered all your questions satisfactorily.
