Here's a cool thing on chains!.... Might be a sticky! (that just sounds SO WRONG!!)

Chain Dimensions

Chain types are identified by number; ie. a number 40 chain. The rightmost digit is 0 for chain of the standard dimensions; 1 for lightweight chain; and 5 for rollerless bushing chain. The digits to the left indicate the pitch of the chain in eighths of an inch. For example, a number 40 chain would have a pitch of four-eighths of an inch, or 1/2", and would be of the standard dimensions in width, roller diameter, etc.

The roller diameter is "nearest binary fraction" (32nd of an inch) to 5/8ths of the pitch; pin diameter is half of roller diameter. The width of the chain, for "standard" (0 series) chain, is the nearest binary fraction to 5/8ths of the pitch; for narrow chains (1 series) width is 41% of the pitch. Sprocket thickness is approximately 85-90% of the roller width.

Plate thickness is 1/8th of the pitch, except "extra-heavy" chain, which is designated by the suffix H, and is 1/32" thicker

I just grind off the rivets and then pry the link off with a flat head. Works well. Chains can sometimes break because u put the clip on the master link the wrong way. U always have to put it so the round side is facing the way the chain goes otherwise if something hits it it will fly off and ur chain locks up and breaks. My dad taught me this. He said u have to make sure u do it on motorbikes coz u dont want it coming off at 300km/h, then ur dead. He's riden bikes all his life and rebuilt many motorbikes, he's actually made a few choppers but thats another story. Point is, make sure ur clip is around the right way, i never thought about it till he told me.

I've never known that the clippy should be faced a certain way! I use a handheld chain breaker that I bought from MFG Supply. Works great I must say. Since master links only cost $0.50 here I don't bother re riveting the chain.

How would it matter which way the clip goes, because once it reaches the other side of the sprocket it would be facing the other way anyways.
Unless its supposed to be a certain way on the bottom.

The chain doesn't change directions. You place it in respect to the chain flow and engine rotation.

Exactly the chain goes one way unless u go in reverse sometimes too haha. If u dont face the circle part the way the chain is going if a little stick or something clips it it can flick the clip off. Having the circle side of the clip facing the way the chain goes will stop this from happening. Also which side u put the clip on is essential as well. If u put it facing the engine it might clip something and fly off, i face mine towards the wheels since it then has plenty of room around it and wont hit anything.

If u still dont get it tell me and ill make a quick video.
