I'm just about done with my rebuild and need some brakes. I'm thinking I'll do disk brakes as they will be easier to mount a disk rather than a hub for band brakes. My problem is deciding which caliper I want. So, what do you guys like and who sells them?

I'm looking at the one from Northern tool

Anyone have any pictures on how they mounted the caliper?

IBNZ Monkey,

I have used that brake on a number of karts, and I honestly hate it. It is cheap, and I have not found another good low cost solution, but once you play with it, you will understand why.

First problem, is that the spring return is now worth anything. Plan to build a spring return into your design. Next, there is no design based mounting location. Using the bolts (from the back) is the only real way, and that is a pain for my designs.

I am importing some brake calipers that I think are superior to the other machanical solutions out there. They kind of remind me a larger bicycle caliper.

Was wondering how jr dragster Tyler was going to hook up his caliper to the brake pedal. Is there a brake rod direct from the pedal to the caliper? If so, how are you actuating the small lever on the caliper being that the lever isn't hanging straight up or straight down so it is in easy access to the brake rod? Thanks.

I had to make some custom linkages. This is a picture of the caliper with the linkage. Then from the front of the kart to the back I have a 1/2" steel rod to apply the brakes. One thing I can say is these brakes are nut's. Insanely strong for there price. Stop from about 45 mph to 0 in about 4 seconds.
