The CV housings are way hard, but a chop saw cuts it nicely. I can't see a lathe cutting it very well at all even with carbide bits. I couldn't even mark the surface with a center punch.

Actually, I cut it with a carbide grit blade on a sawzall. It worked but it took a while. The purpose of the lathe is to machine a hole into the end of the CV joint to accept the hub so that I can just plug the CV into a standard gokart axle.

I got some more work done. It is running a little better but still needs work. I got the exhaust together most of the way. Looks a little funny, but is functional. And it makes it much quieter. I still have to weld up a couple leaks. I will see if I can make a video of it running.

I have the e-brake hooked up and and working on the shift lever. The lever might not be strong enough.

I am working on ideas for fixing the rear suspension sag without spending any more money.

The air filter I had does not allow enough air through, so I have to get another one of those.

I welded some pieces of the aluminum together for the roof, but they warped a little so I have to add some more bolt locations to get it flat. I also need to find some rattle spots on the floor.

Well, Here are some pictures. I will try attaching them this time.

This buggy is quite impressive. I've always wanted to build a high powered off road buggy like this. Also, just a tip for welding aluminum, either weld equally from both sides simultaneously (VERY tough to do :p) or weld short portions in alternating locations to avoid warp. Lastly, you may want to add a support to the exhaust so it doesn't pull on the block mounts.

Thanks everyone.

There are mounts, they are just hard to see in the pictures. Two are spring and the last one on the muffler is hard mounted.

Okay you got to post a vid of it running.

I will see if I can get one tonight.

My first thought would be fuel/oil mixture, but that's pretty straightforward. I doubt you did that wrong.

The carburetor would be my next guess. Since it doesn't idle, and that is almost always a carb related issue, I think that the two problems may be related to the carb.

Is it running rich?

I am not sure how to adjust the premix I did not see an adjustment for it. There is a slight blue in the smoke at times, but it is mostly white. I would think if the mix was the problem it would just cause a lot of blueish smoke, not white smoke.

If that is a snowmobile engine, it is probably jetted for high altitude. You might look into re-jetting it. Also, when I ran two strokes, I ditched the oil injector and mixed my own fuel, the price for an oil injector failing is too high, considering you don't know it's out until you need a top end rebuild.

Wouldn't it run leaner if it was set for high altitude? It is currently making a gas mist out of the carb and the plugs are black and wet. So, I was thinking it was running really rich.

That is a good point about the oil injector. I will look into removing that. Then, what mix ratio do you use? I am new to 2 stroke engines. Never owned one besides the weedeater.

DO NOT remove the oil injector. It was put there for a reason. its bad to remove it and mix your own gas. plus I don't think jetting has a thing to to with it. i have seen so many other snow mobile engine swaps and have never heard of anyone having to re-jet.

I most definetly agree...

So for now I will just try to clean the carb and see if that makes a difference, maybe something is stuck or something.

Yes, the running rich is probably due to it being jetted too rich, the excessive smoke is probably because the oil injector is putting too much oil in your fuel. I haven't followed your thread close enough to know where you got the engine from, what it was being used for before you got it, and what altitude you are at now. There should be a high speed and a low speed needle that you can do minor adjustment with, but if your plugs are dripping, you will most likely need to re-jet. When I raced quads, I re-jetted between my house, and the racetrack, which was only about a 1000 foot difference in altitude. As to the oil mixture, you can check the manufacturers specs for the engine. The 50:1 ratio you use in your weed eater will make your cart smoke..well like it's smoking now.

Have you ever owned a 2 stroke personally?
