The CV housings are way hard, but a chop saw cuts it nicely. I can't see a lathe cutting it very well at all even with carbide bits. I couldn't even mark the surface with a center punch.
Actually, I cut it with a carbide grit blade on a sawzall. It worked but it took a while. The purpose of the lathe is to machine a hole into the end of the CV joint to accept the hub so that I can just plug the CV into a standard gokart axle.
