Hi Guys,

I was on the lookout for a kart to rebuild for the boy when I discovered an old 1960's English lathe in really great condition.

I must admit to only feeling guilty for one second before I took out my wallet and paid the guy on the spot - delivery included.

The little tike is getting impatient tho so I need to move on and get the tubing for his kart - this time hopefully I'll get the tube sizes correct.

Congrats! I don't know how anyone can function in everyday life without a lathe.
If you are ever looking for some cool things to make with a lathe there are a couple of forums which I could PM you, if you want.

If you have never used a lathe before then I would find someone to teach you the basics, or watch some training video's on youtube/dvd. Lathe's can be very dangerous.

Andrew, I'll appreciate any info that you can pass on to me.

Have'nt even used the darn thing and am already in trouble. Getting a good slideway oil seems to be a bit of a problem in my neck of the woods.

I know what you mean about safety. Turned a piece of round bar down - practice for making kart spindles ;) - and did'nt tigthen the jaws properly. You can imagine what happened next. Luckily I was running at a slow speed.
