Bought a new go kart, anyone recognize?

Just purchased this go kart, was wondering if anyone knows who made it?

Anyone had any luck with the Briggs and Stratton snow series engines on a go kart? Not much info online about them. Not sure on the HP rating but torque rating is 15.5 ft/lbs.

Any info would be awesome.

That's a Yerf Dog Spiderbox, probably a GX150, but I need to see a pic of the engine to be 100% sure.
If that snowblower engine has a 3/4" or 1" shaft, if that snowblower engine will bolt up, has a 3/4" or 1" shaft, and you can hook up some sort of throttle cable, go for it!
15.5 ft/lbs of torque is quite a bit! That'd make an offroading BEAST with that engine!
Also, the Briggs OHVs are quite expensive, I think maybe even more than equivalent Hondas.
Unless that GY6 engine on there is really blown up, I'd certainly fix up that engine! The GY6 Spiderboxes are quite capable off road or on road with the stock 150cc engine, and as a bonus they are VERY quiet. I'd use that snowblower engine on another project.

Sorry the pictures aren't too clear, the snowblower engine is already mounted on the cart. The engine came with the cart when I got it. I have a new 30 series comet clutch I'm going to put on it but I have doubts that it can handle the torque. 40 series converters are so dang expensive.

I think you can get away with a 30 series, but keep it all nice and clean.
Yes, 40 series are waaay expensive.
And that's just fine with the snowblower engine one there, it should work great.
What happened to the GY6? Was it on there when you got it?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the 30 series will hold up. The GY6 was gone when I got it. Not sure what happened to it, the guy who sold it to me bought the Briggs 1550 but never hooked it up completely.

That reverse box can handle 13HP!
Sorry 420Racer, I think your system is now #2......
You probably will be just fine hooking up that reverse box. It's very possible to hook up a TC to a reverse box, several people here have done it.

Are there any threads of mounting a gearbox to a TC? I have been thinking about how to would be done, I think the hardest part would be spacing and keeping everyone exactly straight

That’s definitely a spiderbox, and from what I have seen the briggs is a good engine and rated at 10hp I think, but I could be mistaken. As for the reverse you would just mount it in such a way that the input shaft is in the exact same position as the current jackshaft


Engine either 6 or 8 or 10 hp I don’t remember correctly

Weeeeell, given that a stock Predator 212 has ~9.5 ft/lbs of torque, I think it's a 10 HP.

I was bored. So I did some research on that engine. If I found good info, it has 342 cc of displacement. So...you may be looking at the upper end of 11 hp with that engine if it's running right and depending on tuning and fuel. It's gonna be hard on your belts if you go cheap... that's all I'm gonna say. But looks fun to me. Makes me wanna ride!

Thanks for the great info. There are a ton of aftermarket parts since it's a yerfdog I have discovered which is awesome The Briggs is going to push the 30 series for sure, time will tell if it'll hold up. I'm going to need a source for quality belts. I will post on this thread as I work on the kart. Thanks everyone for the help!

Nice kart! Your TC will hold up just fine....it is the belts that are going to wear prematurely. You might find in the long run it will be cheaper just to get a 40 series. Going through 2 good quality 30 series belts could cost you $50-60 as it is

Haha I'll stick with the electric for now. Unfortunately that wouldn't hold up to the torque of the 420 and if it breaks out in the woods you won't even be going forward......even the real comet ones back in the day were troublesome.
