Hey everyone. My stepson is a great kid and I got a great deal on 2 go karts.
Apon delivery of both go karts by seller..both have bad breaks. Both use brake shoes. The one that has the belt driven system is very loud and takes done has to Rev up. Almost like its trying to catch but it can't?
My question is. .is that normal.
How do we upgrade the go kart.? I'll be posting video when I hey home 7 a m tomorrow

Thanks
Alex

You're not lost..... You're in Miami...... :lolgoku:
:welcome2:
Sounds like the TC needs some tlc. Just a good cleaning and maybe a new belt. What is loud? The engine?

Sounds Used

The first problem may be that your torque converter (belt driven system) is worn out or it may just be the belt but chances are they previous owners ran these things balls to the wall but i would suggest buying a new torque converter system for both karts because the are better than centrifugal clutches in my opinion because they work like an automatic transmission, keeping max torque throughout your max rpms. but if you seem to be a little bit strapped for cash at the moment just be sure to buy a new spring loader for the torque converter which is inside of the clutch and connected to the shaft coming out of the engine. Also be sure to grease or wd 40 EVERY MOVING PART on the go kart before hitting the high speeds and as for brakes you can consider replacing the shoes but i would recommend buying disc brakes from bmikarts.com and you can find a new torque converter here on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-GO-KART-T...388?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d1b5e6324

Hey guys sorry it took so long to reply. I left my shift feeling like a zombie (busy night)

This is go kart 1

This is go kart 2:

If the current issues weren't enough. .I took my oldest son for a spin on go kart 1 and the accelerator stopped responding. I noticed a spring looking thing came loose.

Thanks and Help!
P.s. I went to some local stores and got no where with a replacement chain or new link. I guess the only option is to order it online.

I find Chain and or links at the ....lawn mower repair shop. ........Links are like .35cents and chain is cheap like 2 bucks a foot. It is not the best chain but it beats waiting on online shipping.

Ok, kart #1 is a Manco Dingo; that's a torque converter, kart #2 has a centrifugal clutch...

I have a feeling the brake band is setup incorrectly, it should run in front of the drum, not behind it...

As for the rattle, the bell on the driver clutch (attached to the engine) seems to be running off (it's not straight), that may have something to do with it...

Kart #2 I don't know what it is but, the brake drum has seen better days; can you post some pics of the brake setup?

Can you see the attachment? This is the spring thing I'm talking about that I'm guessing works with the throttle

It's been a long time but on kart 1 the part of the band hooked to the rod should be moved up to hook on the frame. The part that is attached to the frame now goes to the top of the drum and the rod attaches there. Someone moved the rod to the bottom a big no,no. Rebuild the primary clutch and all will be better, might as well do the secondary while your at it.

Brake is set up wrong.

The first go kart the engine shaft is bent ... You need a new engine for kart 1 believe me I had the same problem
Nah, it's not bent. It's the driver that needs attention. The chances of bending the output shaft are slim. You would REALLY have to screw up, to bend one of those cranks. It would be leaking oil too, at the seal..... And eventually, the harmonics would destroy the engine from shaking so bad. Pretty sure it's just the tc driver.
HEY, ?!? Is that belt on backwards? Looked like the arrows where pointing the wrong way......

thanks again for all the replies. My plans for tommorow are to work on the breaks and flip it around like you guys directed on both karts.

for go kart 1.. you mentioned:
"the bell on the driver clutch (attached to the engine) seems to be running off (it's not straight), that may have something to do with it..."

is the bell the top part of the torque converter? in the video it looks wobbly. how do you fix that rattle?

Just for giggles, pull the driver off (yes the top part of the torque converter ). Use a 7/16 wrench and take the retain bolt off. Then slide off the first half of the driver. This will let the belt come off. Then slide the rest off. Post pics of everything. I'm thinking the outer half is bent out of shape..... With the driver off, run the engine for a second, to confirm the shaft isn't bent.
Now that that's out of the way. Looks take a closer look at the driver. Needs to be smooth, on the sheave faces. The brass spacer ring needs to be in good shape. The piece in the center should move freely.....
Seacrh the forum for (tc maintenance )...... I'm on my crappy tablet, so it's a bit difficult to post you the link.....
