Found the link for the chain in a small home in the wall store 5 minutes from my house. Guy even have it to me for free when I mentioned driving all over miami and he was the only one who had it.
Now...any tricks? How do I get the old link off??

Can you take a good slow pic/video of the brake rod from the peddle to the brake band. I am wondering if some one has put the rod on under the cart when it is supposed to be on top for that model? Then the way the brake band is now, unhook it and rotate it back just a little so the hole the rod is currently bolted to now bolts to the frame, then the rod running on top of the frame now bolt to the other hole?

Might be some other ways to remove the chain link on Google but easiest way is a chain link breaker.

Just use a screwdriver to remove the clip from the master link. Pull off side plate. Pull back plate/ studs out.... Install in reverse.... When looking at the chain, from the clutch side, the open end of the clip should point to the rear, when the chain is on the top of the clutch sprocket.....
EDIT
Yeah brake rod should be on top and the band should mount in front of the bell/drum, at least even with the axle. This allows the most contact on the bell/drum.....

Got the link off! Knocked it out with flat head screw driver and a hammer. Heres the link with your request brother.

Ok, kart #1 is a Manco Dingo; that's a torque converter, kart #2 has a centrifugal clutch...

I have a feeling the brake band is setup incorrectly, it should run in front of the drum, not behind it...

As for the rattle, the bell on the driver clutch (attached to the engine) seems to be running off (it's not straight), that may have something to do with it...

Kart #2 I don't know what it is but, the brake drum has seen better days; can you post some pics of the brake setup?

Whoa!!!! Man thats jacked up....
Take the rod off and straighten it out a little. The band is connected wrong. Unhook it how you got it. The bottom of the band connects to that bolt where you got the top of the band. The brake rod should go OVER the drum, and attached to the top side of the band. The way you have it, you're only utilizing maybe 60% of the brake capacity.....

Thanks for the fast reply. For which kart? What about ordering a brake kit? Any recommendations? Starting new seems easier since these parts are relatively cheap

Hook your brake band up like on my personal play toy. My kart hits 45 and I can lock up my tires with NO problem.....
EDIT
I'm not using those tires on that kart. I was just messing around.....

Drum brakes always work best when they are "self energizing"*, to do this on a brake band, you need to be pulling the band in the same direction that the drum is rolling, so the tighter you pull it, the more it rolls with you and tightens against itself. If you're pulling opposite the drum's rotation, you're doing the opposite, the faster you're rolling, the more it pulls against the pressure of your foot.

(On automotive braking system, the ones that are self energizing generally have a long shoe and a short one, & the long shoe goes to the rear.)

So busy day today reinstalled the brakes on go kart 1 like your guys said and what a difference. Went and bought some missing bolts and did some general maintenance. My step son came home and this was the end result

Go kart 1 is alive: http://youtu.be/1S11JT-HYOI

Didn't last that long because eventually the brake ended up like this
Go kart 1 brakes bent: http://youtu.be/mfG0gtTJI6Y

It seems like the one bolt on the chassis that secures to the actual brake is 2 short and doesn't show the actual pad to sit correctly. Eventually the brake was pulled off of position causing it to bend. Frustrating

What to do what you do. They sell some disc brake kits so I thought about that. I also realized I need a new torque converter kit. Found one on ebay for $100 . I'm taking it to my buddies house on Thursday for some welding.

Go kart 2's chain came in bit I noticed we need new ball bearings so I ordered some.the brakes were done wrong on this one also do I'm going to take care of that on thursday as well.

Thanks again for all the advice!

10tooth clutch for 3/4" shaft. You have #40/#41 sprockets.....
Need to center the front part of the band with the drum. Use nuts and washers to make it stay.... The band you have has a "keeper clip" on it, towards the middle, to hold it centered also. If the front part of the band is lined up correctly, and the brake rod's action is directly over/centered with the drum, you should not have that happen again.....

Put a bolt through the brake band, then a nut, add some spacers, (washers?), if need be, to space out the brake band so it lines up correctly on the drum, then through the frame, then another nut.
