If all else fails couldn't you put a bearing between the bolt and what your connecting it to? This should stop any excess movement from undoing the bolt, but it sounds to me that something is catching it or its not lubricated properly,

Adding a bearing would exacerbate the situation and is not required.
There is no (or should not be) any movement there.
OP needs to find out why it's doing something it's not supposed to do.
I suspect it's key or clutch bearing related.

You sure you have the right bolt?
check engines manual what size and thread pitch you need,
and the correct length (an inch or so)?

5/16?? isn't that small? I though 5/8x24 if it's a honda and actually made for the US Market...
Anyways, if it's a clone (or european honda) it can also have a metric bolt like 10x1.5

the bolt is 3/8x24. I have right bolt. I got some key stock, so I am going to cut what I need and put that in there. Does that bolt that's there instead of the other set screw going to make a difference. Its the same size and everything it just has a head...

yeah I am going to check ACE Hardware tomorrow. Lowes and Home Depot had set screws all around the size I needed, but did not have the size I needed. Doesn't that just make you mad....

I got everything put back together and the bolt is still backing out. I got the correct set screws and key stock. I put everything back on yesterday and let the loctite sit till i got home from work today ( 20 or so hours ). I literally went about 20 yards and the bolt loosened and the chain fell off. Any other ideas on what could be causing this???

I just dont get how the bolt could still be loosening itself. I have the right hardware, i have a lock washer, and I have loctite on the bolt. Doesn't make any sense!!!

The only thing that springs to mind is either, the direction the engine is turning, is the same to the thread in the hole, or something is catching the bolt causing it to undo, is the clutch mooving freely from the shaft of the engine? Some close up pics would help too

the engine turns counterclockwise while the bolt turns clockwise to tighten. the clutch drum moves freely, but the clutch itself does not.

Well any bolt can rattle itself loose on a kart I guess if the thread is worn or it's not tightened properly etc.

So I don't think it's because it's the PTO shaft bolt ;)

tomorrow, I am going to run by home depot or lowes and get a longer bolt to see if that helps any. It seems the bolt is a little wiggly where its at right now, which I think could be causing it to rattle loose.

A little wiggly
What do u mean by that?
Do u mean it is loose on the threads as in u can jiggle it back and forth up and down

Sounds like the wrong bolt

This situation is just odd

Can u take a video
Put the back wheels up in stands and the front wheels up against a wall
Crank up the engine and film the bolt coming loose

Just a quick question OP- How much locktite are you using on the bolt, Just a line across the threads or basically dipping the whole threaded part in the glue?
How much time for set up before riding or starting?
