I'm still pretty new to welding - I probably have about 3-4 hours on my Millermatic 211 (if that much time).

I think I had a couple of welds that were better on my kart build that I'll try and get pictures of, but these were fair as well. Welded flat, C25 gas, .030 wire. The penetration could have been a little stronger, but it was ok because I welded both sides anyway (so I could grind down the contact surface smooth on the other side)

This was for my trailer axle I custom made.

I have a Lincoln SP135 plus. Not a tap mig this has infinite adjustments on both wire speed and current.

i sold some of my best welds today on a motor mount
but it was idiot proof mig with a millermatic 140 with .030 wire and 75/25 mix

A little stainless weld

This is one of the few welds I make that I can take a picture of, it's ss316 fillet weld on 20 guage sheet steel, using a lincoln AC/DC buzzbox with a tig rig hooked up

I know the last post was over a month ago, but this thread has been dragged on for months. I have to do a speech on welding for auto shop, so for part of my visual i made a stick(pic 1&2) and flux-core(pic 3&4) weld and then cut the welds and etched them. This way you can see the penetration. Ignore the lower portion of the weld in the 3rd pic, i was getting it dialed it. I didnt get real great penetration in the flux-core, i should have slowed down the wire speed.

The bumping of this style of thread (the best weld, what's your car like?) will never be minded. I actually intended bumping this soon because I just hooked up one of the migs at school today to finish my stupid kart (I just wanna ride). About your welds, I don't think any of them got too great of penetration.

I was pretty happy with the stick weld. Penetration appears to be decent & the weld looked ok once i got going although it wasnt real straight. For what ever reason i havent been getting good welds out of my flux core lately, the arc is a bit jumpy.

my welds aren't anything to brag about here (they are in the middle school class room though,lol) but i can never get good pics of them either you cant see anything in the pic or the pic quality is sooooo bad it looks like i threw a caterpillar where a fillet weld is supposed to be

At least your middle school has classes like that. My high school doesnt even have that . Mabe it because it full of rich kids(mabe i shouldnt be typing this while im at school)

& as far as taking pics of welds, it helps to have a light source at an angle. That way it casts shadows & defines edges.

At least your middle school has classes like that. My high school doesnt even have that . Mabe it because it full of rich kids(mabe i shouldnt be typing this while im at school)

i wish my middle school had welding classes, they had an ok wood-shop like 15 years ago(before i was even born), but decided it would be better to have an art-room , i learned how to weld by looking through weldingtipsandtricks.com, then after getting the basic idea, headed into my garage and practiced for several months, then visited my uncle, who revised my welding and got things up to par, sooooo i guess you could say I'm self taught, i don't think my welds are really nearly as good as other peoples on this site, but I'm happy to say they won't break any time soon!

Nope, It just brushed the NC coast & im around 8 hours from there. I havent seen a cloud all day.

that's nice,some people here are going crazy preparing for the categorie 2 hurricane and buying stuff like 20 dollar flash-lights, lol.(that's what it was forecast to be as of wednesday) now there saying its a tropical storm. i just tie down the canoe and put the patio furniture in the garage, pickup some ice, batteries and I'm done!
