Rebuilding mb165 jack shaft question

This is my jack shaft..the bearing just behind the sprocket is bad..I took the nut off the shaft and took the sprocket off then hammered the shaft out of the housing..the bad bearing is pressed into, the housing I assume since I can't beat it out lol

My question is should I rebuild the jack shaft or just buy a new one? The threaded shaft was a bit chewed up as well

I'm fine with dropping 40-50$ on a new jack shaft but because I'm putting in a new engine as well can't drop the bigger money on the torque converter like I want to..

I am rebuilding it from the ground up so things are adding up fast lol
any help with the rebuild of this or direction on a new one would be great..

A site I was on had a new one but it was for the mb200 only and said it was not compatible with the 165? Not sure why

Also if you look at the pic just behind the sprocket you will see a black nub..I assume a chain tensioner? Need some direction on the as well

Than,s so much for any help

Dave

Painted black after washing degreasing and wire brushing

The brackets for the fenders are painted red also..the gas cap is staying chrome

I will start assembly in a few days so I have time to mess with jack shaft

Thanks guys

I'm rebuilding a mb165 as a gift for my nephew
The jack shaft has bad bearings so it looks like I need a new one

Where is the best place to but it and the chains?

Sprockets are ok

Thanks
Dave

I will post build pics start to finish with details soon

well OMBwarehouse has fair prices on all of what you need.

you can swap JUST the bearings and keep the jackshaft if you want (well I don't know if the jackshaft is still reusable, but I think it should..)
The sprockets though, a good quality chain will wear out most sprockets as much as it wears itself down..
So make sure the sprockets are not just looking okay'ish but are indeed reusable.

If unsure just post some pics and let us decide ;)

Thank you
I would rather rebuild this jack shaft and use the money for a new motor

I can't seem to get the bad bearing out though
I assume it's pressed in?

Thanks for the help!!

I will post pics of the sprockets when home

If you are going to buy the entire jackshaft, may I suggest you get the newer model that has a bolt on steel cover versus the snap on plastic one.

Ah.. There's no bearing inside :D just two bushings;
and maybe they're not as bad as you might think..
maybe a good clean and reoiling them will make it work again, otherwise you can find them as I said at ombwarehouse

http://www.ombwarehouse.com/MB165/HT65/
(check the diagram for the partnumbers; it'll open a pdf with all the parts)

It says bushings but they are actually bearings. One style is 16mm ID x 35mm OD and the other is 16mm ID x ??mm OD (bigger than 35mm) I own 3 of these jackshafts in (old style) 2 use the 35mm OD bearings and 1 uses the other.

Yea they are bearings. I can see them the rear one is fine but the front one closest to the sprocket is smoked..I can see the bearings and feel the grind when I roll the sprocket

That front bearing must be pressed on though..I can't beat it out for the life of me

I will take detailed pics shortly

So it's looking like I'm better off just buying a newer style jack shaft ether way?

I have the whole Jackshaft set up from the newer baja warrior and metal housing shroud. Has seem less than a month of use by a kid. I am converting the bike to a torque converter driven bike so I have no need for it.

$40 plus shipping and it's yours.

Are you trying to pound that bearing through the front (sprocket side) out the back? Doesn't work that way. Looks like 2 spots on the jackshaft housing are bent around the edge of the bearing so thats gonna make pressing it out more difficult. Might need to straighten that back out or die grind it.

Great, gran_pann for the rescue

Wow.. bearings indeed... *shrugs* now that's a high quality manual isn't it :lolgoku:
Ah well.. chinese crap all the way :(

removing them is indeed not as easy as flipping a coin, but undoing the folds and pressing (or pulling) them out will still work, just in case you want to restore the jackplate even though you'll get a "like new" full set up from gran.

Now, the sprockets are indeed in perfect condition;
not cosmetically but still perfectly reuseable.

Not bad to have a replacement sprocket handy just in case ;)

I filled out my profile not sure why it's not displaying

I'm in a mobile so it doesn't display the profile info but I saw it when I looked in my pc

Yes the flange is pinched at the edge of the bearing I was trying to pound it out the other side

I'm looking forward to hearing from gran pan and getting the right one

Thanks for the info on the sprockets being in good shape

Thanks for the help and advice from all
Dave

Pm sent.

Also, why are you wanting to buy a new engine? That engine on the kart may just need a good tank/fuel line/carb clean. The only way I would junk an engine like that would be because it had low compression or was seized and had low compression.

Also, here are a few items I would get for the bike too.

Seat:
http://www.ombwarehouse.com/165-033-Baja-OEM-Black-Seat-MB200-195A.html

Fake gas tank:
http://www.ombwarehouse.com/MB200-168-Baja-OEM-Decorative-Tank-Black.html

New non OEM grips/throttle (old ones break easily)
Cherry Japan ones have a metal housing I have put this on one mini bike and they work great:

This other style works too

It did not get posted because of the spam filtering system we have. You posted too many links for a noob, so a moderator had to approve your post. I will merge it with the other
