yes, thin steel + 90A fcaw = a spot of growing frustration on the tank that is about as good as a sand sifter for holding water. you could have just asked me what would happen! LOL bean there, done that, thrown gas tank across garage... :D there's probably a crap load of stuff in the gas tank that shouldn't be there too.

if its too thin, don't try to weld the fake tank, maybe find someone with a MIG close by?

What exactly were you trying to do? Im confused...

{EDIT} Heres what I got for $75...

Since Ive had it, the clutch cover got mangled, the light broke, the exhaust extension fell off, the brake lever bracket broke, the JS key broke, knocked off the foot peg, and the remaining fake tank bracket broke...

So I done some hard riding...

im tyring to weld a patch over the leaky fuel meter.

im thinking, get all the biggest holes welded up, and paint with POR15 to fill in the cracks.

Would some JB weld work? I dont know how it would hold up against gas... Maybe auto body putty? I would think that it would work...

ive tried jb weld in the past and it didnt work too well with the gas. maybe i just need to spend a crapload of time on the tank sealing up it with the welder. but it really pissed me off last time the last hole i blew i just said screw it and walked away.

The por15 sealer kit comes with like pads you lay over wet por15. Kind of like Fiberglass. Just paint with por15. They lay the mat thing down. Paint over the mat and your done. Really hard to sand but it can be done. Once you have the outside holes patched. You then line the inside of the tank with the rest of the por15. Any tank would be sealed for life.

I am sure you could do it with a silver starter kit and some fiberglass sheets. Gas is no match to por15. I never even worry if I spill paint on any of my por15 painted toys or tanks.

Yeah, hopefully I can get it to fit without any issues... Too bad it wasnt an OHV, I seen someones build over a OMB with a 11hp b&s ohv, it fit...

So I lost the nut that goes on the lack shaft, do I need to get a special one? Or will a regular nut work?

Just any nut and washer will be fine. Nylon lock nuts are the best! Take the js to a hardware store, i bet you will walk out with a correct nut..

To bad about the tank. I don't know about the por fix that Big Head recommended; I've never used the stuff. Sounds like it's good stuff. (Hey, Big Head, got any sources for it that you recommend?)

Another potential fix is gas tank putty. I haven't needed in quite some time, but I used to get it at the auto parts store. It's (it was) two part epoxy putty that comes in a stick. Start with a good clean surface, cut off (don't tear) a piece about the size you think you need and knead it really well. pack it into place and let it cure. your as ground surface would be great.

The 2 parts are rapped together to make the stick; that's why you need to cut it instead of tearing it. It's great for building things up (like gas tank necks); don't know how thin you can use it and have it hold. POR may be the way to go for you. Hope this helps.;)

thanks alot for the suggestions! as for right now it has a greyhound tank on it... held in by one bolt. (other holes dont even come close to matching up)

well it seems to be fine with the 1 bolt. surprisingly, no vibration, rattling, or movement at all.

its a test of time i guess...

It's kind of late for that tank, but another option if you run into a similar problem in the future is to see what the auto store can get by way of sealers. Most stores don't stock full lines of mfg.'s products in house but can get the rest within a day. Ask them for a line card for the brand(s) you're looking for; there is a lot of specialty stuff out there that can fix a lot of problems. I'm no expert by any means, but I have learned to look around a little. A lot of it will be what you can get locally. Big thing is, you can try it without having to deal with all the shipping charges:ack2:. Sounds like the forum has lots of ideas as well. Good lusk with the new tank!!!

So yeah... the nut I gt didnt fit, It went on maybe 3 threads nicely and then went to pot... SO! I got mad and hulked out or something, it fits now.

:bannana:

Im gonna give my brother the jackshaft to turn down to something more hospitable...

{EDIT} Yeah, I think Im gonna make 2 new suports to replace the one in the middle, so the top of the 11hp would fit between... Maybe add rear suspension, or somehow modify the front to be stiffer... somehow.
