so on my baja, the brake sticks on, for like a whole minute after i press the brake.

i can adjust how much the cable pulls back on the arm, but either it doesnt stick and i have no brakes, OR i have great brakes, but the wheel wont move for a long time once it is pressed.

the bikes an '06 and was bought this spring off craigslist for $275.

not sure if theres much i can do other than take it all apart and see whats up. just wondering if its a common problem.

the brake is one of those drum brakes that is internal pads... if that makes any sense.

its always been doing this since i had it.

i guess i havent been using brakes much...

this is the bike. but not with the tecumseh. i decided to put the clone back in. maybe eventually when the tecumseh is running perfect, i will put it back in.

EDIT: oh ya, and it CANNOT BE THE CABLE. because with the cable removed, and me manually pulling the lever back, it still sticks.

sideways

Unfinished projects king.

Take it apart and grease all the pivot points within the brake, use a minimal amount of high heat grease for obvious reasons. Check the return spring hasn't stretched or (move obviously) broken or come disconnected.

It's usually sticking pivot points that causes this.

If you stop and roll the bike backwards can you hear/feel the brakes disengage?

Do they suddenly disengage or do they slowly fade?

they slowly fade. and sometimes, if i hit the brake, and push it backwards, i can almost never get the wheel un-siesed.

even after trying to pry back the brake arm.

i guess i got to take it apart and check it out.

thanks!

ill post pics once its apart...

the pads arrived today. lightening fast shipping.

briggs and stratton engines make great bike stands.

old and new. can you tell a difference?

cleaned up all the parts (lever and rotating parts) with POR15 marine clean. then i re-greased them. and assembled.

working on it. replaced the chain because i had some. going to do electrolysis on the old chain.

Looking back over the photo of what you found when you dove into the brakes, it got me wondering about the bearings and seals on the rest of the unit. Low drag seals, like on regular garden variety sealed bearings and a lot of engines can handle only so much; a direct shot from someone trying to clean that much gunk with a pressure washer isn't what they are designed to handle. Did the bearings feel OK?

i never pressure washed the bearings.. it was raining outside thats why there were puddles but it was under a roof.

i almost never hit something with a hose. i always wash them with paper towels.

That great!! Sorry if I gave the wrong impression; I wasn't asking if you had power washed it, I was wondering if someone else had and if you had found any damage that would indicate as much. If the first owner had buried it to the point that the brakes looked that bad, how did they clean the rest of the bike?

oh right!!! thanks!!

when i got the bike, the guy had another i prob should have bought as a parts bike (torn apart completely). that one was beat to hell. the one i was buying, had a burnt out clutch that would not let the engine idle, and the brakes were sort of bad. it was kept outside under a tarp with a bunch of tire chains over it. so now that i get it, i dont bury it under 10 feet of mud, but i managed to break off the fake gas tank and ruin the clutch cover, bend the rear fender (bent it back its ok!) and ive dropped it a few times.

2 out of the 4 friends who have drove it, crashed. one took a corner too fast and fell into the field, and one hit the brake and skidded around a slope and layed the bike down lol.

i fell in my backyard 2 times because of the brakes. the rear tire is almost bald so when you hit the brake it powerslides real bad.

ugh now i need a new tire.

torque converter $200
rear tire $?????
gas tank $40

:roflol: Sounds like you're having a blast with it; that's the way it's supposed to be!!:wai:Just try to keep it shiny side up; I'm in physical rehab right now, myself. Trust me; you have a great many things you would probably rather be doing than that. Keep the posts coming!!:cheers2:
