Hey Guys, new here, In the process of rebuilding two karts here. A Yerf Dog 3205 and a Murray explorer. I started out with the yerf dog which had a bad motor, bought a new 6.5 honda clone last week for it. Well,,,, shaft is to short, and if I remove the spacer my torque converter doesnt line up. So today I ran across this guy who had a Murray Explorer kart for 100.00 on craigslist. So I went, looked at it, everything was good except a few minor problems (brake pads, recoil, and front tire). Runs excellent!
ok, so when I started looking at this thing I noticed that this 6.0 doesn't have a spacer between the clutch and engine, ok, so I thought, I'll put the Honda clone on here and put this on the yerf dog, everything will be ok, right? Wrong!! This Murray with the 6.0hp has the same short shaft as the honda clone.
SO, Does anyone know if the crank in the 6.5 might be compatible with the 6.0? The 6.5 is a OHH65 71711D and the 6.0 is OHH60 71137C. looking on the internet it looks like they both are OH195.
Any help would be useful. TY

i cant be sure, but im more leaning towards yes.

if you have a torque wrench on hand then it will take a half hour or less.

steps:

drain oil.
remove the flywheel (take off blower housing and tap crank with hammer, pry off key.
remove crank case bolts in a across pattern as to not break one.
tap out with hammer.
take the bottom piece of the connecting rod off.
rotate to top dead center.
remove cam shaft (should pull out)
crankshaft should pull right out, then you can see if your new one fits.
if its good, you will need to put the connecting rod back together, so be sure to put it back as you took it off.
torque them to factory specs (found online or in manual)
LINE UP THE CAM GEARS (dots on one tooth on each gear usually)
replace crank case.
snug in bolts or use a torque wrench (torque specs again)
should be good to go just put flywheel back on...

By shorter you're meaning after the spacer then your final section to the drive clutch containing the hub is only held on by 1/4" of shaft?

If this is the case no shaft change is necessary period. The hub is a solid piece and more than strong enough once you've placed the final bolt/lockwasher/washer to hold the assembly in place.

Lets not make things harder than they need to be if this is what is happening.

Thanks bud, See.... I was thinking the same thing, but just second guessing myself I guess. When I open the 6.0 and try this? Do you think I'll have to get a new gasket? If so, I might as well just get it first? Do you know how easy they tear up?
I've already torn into the bad 6.5. I'm looking at the guts now. Just nervous I'm gonna screw up the good one in the process.

The parts explosion indicates both engines use the same parts such as rods, pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, cylinder head, etc.
I am unclear as to why these engines have different power ratings. There was an industry wide lawsuit claiming that horsepower ratings were incorrect. These (your) engines may be an example.

I believe you old motor was a tecumseh, am I wrong?

I think it is because of where the oil plug is and the shape of the crankcase.

On your clutch issue, I would bolt it together and see if it works.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

When you tighten up the clutch, turn the crankshaft and make sure it turns normally with no binding and make sure your clutch don't slide around on the crankshaft.

Is the spacer your talking about rub or run on the seal on your motor or how does your spacer work?

I am not for sure what you are talking about but it doesn't need to run on the side of your crankcase cover.

I would say google images lol.

I helped build a 500 honda mud four wheeler for the mud pit we have ever two or three weeks and didn't get a chance to take a picture of it.

I looked up mudding atvs and found this one.

It has a little just a little bit more lift than what ours had.

The one we built came up to my dad's chest and he is about 6 foot 4.

I don't have no pictures of ours so I decided to cheat.

OK, so I got my new axle in and brake drum, bearings, etc. I noticed on my axle I can swap the large sproket to the other side. Can I swap the sprocket on the jackshaft to make it line up that way? I'f I'm able to do that.... Then I can take the spacer off the motor and no longer have to worry about the shaft being to short.
