Bad 6.5hp tecumseh, good 6.0, but shaft is shorter. Can I swap them?

You want the sprocket as close to the bearings as possible to distribute the torque. If you place the sprocket at the end of the shaft without a second support bearing added on the other side (changing the shaft out completely to be longer) you will break something guaranteed.

ok, maybe you miss understood me. or i miss understood you.
My jackshaft .... starting at the left side and describing going right, looking from the back.... Nut, torque converter, 10t sprocket, jackshaft, bolt going thru it of course.
So, If I take the 10t sprocket off, and swap it to the right side of the jackshaft,,, and move the axle sprocket over too.... You think I'll break something?

There is bearings on both sides of the jackshaft where the bolt goes thru right?

You can move it to the right side of the jack-shaft if you desire for spacing, I will say that following this you would need to build a new chain guard.

I found myself in a similar situation this weekend with my Yerf Dog. I'm new to the go-kart world and have already found this site to be great for how-to and reference material.

Not to beat a dead horse, but a 1/4" of drive shaft is enough for the outer clutch assembly to hold onto? I've attached a couple pics for reference.

First, the old shaft on my 6.5 hp Tecumseh (god rest its soul), is over half an inch longer than the 2 7/16" shaft on my new Power Horse.

Here is a pic of the shorter shaft on the 6 hp Power Horse...

So as long as I use a grade 5 bolt, lock washer, etc. going from 2 cm to 5 mm is ok?
