only thing is that starters are not designed to run for any period of time. but good idea, give it a try!
awesome kart!

I just figured i don´t want to step out of the gokart and push it... PAIN, better do it right, and with class! I think this is a relativly simple yet reliable system... and yes it´s only made for going backwards short period of time ! but that´s enough time !

Thanks for the awesome feedback dudes!

Very interesting reverse concept, it has the potential to work quite well. Obviously, it's not something you're going to use constantly, so it should be OK. Nice work!

I think you'll be ok on this. Backing a go kart up will be WAY LESS load on a starter than trying to crank an engine. As a rule of thumb, they say you shouldn't crank an engine over for more than 30 seconds at a time with two minutes in between to allow for the starter motor to cool down. You ever crank an engine for 30 seconds straight? It's an eternity!!! That'll work GREAT for backing up a go kart!

thanks for this information nerfo.

I have´nt done any maths considering the reverse (wheel/flywheel diameter) only thing i know is ... that it will go backwards when cranking the starter! and there will not be so much load on the starter.

Whats left to do before testrun:
front tires/suspension
gastank
battery holder
and some electrical wiring

i found an idéal tank from a dirtbike laying around, so i welded some mounts for it, and now it´s in place! thats one thing to cross-of my "to do" list

the front tires/suspension are the major things left to do before the big testrun!

i have done some maths, and i figured the kart will probaly go 70+ km/h=onough speed to be killed :D

I love how GPS units have made is possible to validate top speeds of go karts so people can't carry on about how their go kart can hit 60 (96 kph) because their "buddy" followed him in his beater truck once. Of course, we can still lie on this forum... but I think theres a lot to be said about integrity. I can't wait to use mine to test the top speed of my kart when I finally have it all done and the weather's... well, go kart test drive worthy. 70 kph (or 43mph) sounds reasonably fast... especially when you have a transmission to help get the thing going! You'll have to let us know how she turns out after you've got your front suspension and tires done!

Soo....At this stage i´m not far from done with the front end of the kart, and it has been a pain in the a** with all the precision work! but its soon coming to an end!... LUCKILY!...

i´m preparing the kart for the testrun, checking ignition/clutch etc. all the small details will be finished after the testrun!

The deadline = before the snow melts

Where your wheels attach front and back look kinda iffy.

On the rear it looks like your axle will snap right where it comes out of your pillow block bearing. On the front that spindle looks like its just going to bend that angle iron when you hit a bump....I would put more braces on that.

BUT! Your ingenuity is wonderful. How old are you? Is it just me or are Swedes like the pure spawn of creativeness? NICE WORK!

good poiint, the backs i wouldnt so much worry about, the suspension should take the brunt of the ride, the front however might tweak a bit. most you can do to strengthen it is weld a piece of flat into the back and the front. but on the lighter side it may take the beating fine, only time will tell

Thanks dudes! well I´m 17 , for answering your question!

I will se how everything goes and if the welds are holding during the test run. then I know what i will reinforce/fix.

I don´t follow any plans or such, couse I have a picture in my head. Cretiveness is the only thing Necessary! and some Measurements to get it straight of course :D
