In my opinion, you don't want modern tires and wheels unless they are the same size as what's on it now.
What you have isn't a go kart.
It's a vintage Quarter Midget, a very small race car that ran dirt and paved ovals.
Yours has dirt tires on it.
It's not going to do what a go kart does.
It will, however be a blast on a small dirt oval.

This would be great to **** off the maintanace crew at the local schools track.

Your QM probably had one originally.
Again, like a Sprints & Midgets, the cages came in during the '70s.
QM's were the beginners level on the open wheel short track training grounds.
Some ended up at the Brickyard.

It could be an old Curtis? Sure looks like the one I used to see hanging in the local Harley dealer. Mr. Molenar collected all the old stuff, then again he opened the dealership in 1939.
