Anyone have a genuine Comet 40 series driver they want to sell?

So Ive bought in total, 4 generic 40 drivers. The sheve gets cocked crooked, causing severe vibration but whats worse is it wont retract. I have to carry a small hammer to tap it and make it go back to rest. They all do this same thing after about a half hour of hard use.. Disassemble, clean and you have another good half hour of proper actuation.

Im 99% sure its the ramps and filing anything actually causes this issue to be worse as it allows the weights to rotate slightly inside the ramp. The weights have just enough room to shift and jam crooked on attempted retraction.

Now, I dont just try the driver and move on. They all get the same treatment: Filing/sanding, swap weights, springs, different lubes, parts between the 4...

Im doing some researchin, trying to find a fitting driver that has an actuation wherein everything moves in unison.

Is anyone else super hard on these generic drivers but DONT have a problem? They just work?

The movable sheaves should be on the same side for best belt alignment. Being symmetrical it can be done this way but you need to split the difference so the belt stays as straight as possible.

Yea, I had an extra spacer on the driven, thats why it looked off to me.

So I got a chance to try a Comet driver and its working just fine.

I wonder if the cheap drivers have just enough slop for my backwards mounting to have an ill-effect.. I bet thats it.

I had a very similar problem with mine.
look closer at the damage pointed out in the pic.
the two halves are slipping causing the two pieces to get misaligned then the weight jumps the ramp and jam up. The symptoms you describe fit exactly.
its either a design problem, or the nut is not tightened enough, or as in my case it is operating beyond its maximum power rating.
l’m sending almost twice the rated power through it. After screwing with itseveral times l just gave up and welded it. Its been that way for many hours of thrashing and still works perfectly. I drilled a few holes so l could spray dry lube in it

Just throwing it out there if anyone has one...

Looking for a billet rod also.

Im noticing people dont sell this stuff used. Why is that? Stuff just stays with the vehicle when its sold I guess?
