I picked this thing up yesterday. It definitely needs some work, but couldn't pass it up for the price. The only markings I've found on it so far are "gs moon" on what looks like the starter motor. Any idea what I got here?

It does seem to be an odd setup, even to someone not really familiar with these things. I have a 5hp Briggs that came off my recently modified thunder kart, but it's missing an engine shroud. I can start it with a drill and it runs fine otherwise. I've been trying to find a shroud at a decent price for the last few days.

Its a pain in the @$$ !
Gotta get a engine mount in the right spot, fit a jackshaft on it, unless using a tensioner you need to make the rear rigid.
Notice i turned the rear wheel around and added a disk brake. You need to mod to fit a sprocket with the correct tooth size since it has a #25 chain on it now or a bicycle size.
They are cheaply made mini choppers by MRC i believe.

Looking at the model and it's available accessories online, it looks like junk. I'd save the seat, frame and front forks and build from there.

The front forks look cool! They sell for $40 online, but the neck stem tube diameter is non-standard I think. You can use it on another model mini.

And Zhang Wei beats each and every one leaving the factory with an ugly stick. Word on the street is that it's an automated Ugly Club® now but he still has to push a button. He has good job security too.

Even though I'm a purist fan of the small-wheel minibike, that thing NEEDS bigger wheels...:ack2:

Anyone know a good source for shrouds in southwest Ohio?

You could also check nearby metal recyclers...each one is different on how they operate. I don't see why a horizontal shaft engine shroud wouldn't work.

Might have to buy a whole lawnmower for $30..take it back and get $5...

Check a lawnmower shop for compatibility...and maybe they have a used one?

don't look at me.. I cannot be held responsible for all the abominations that emerge from chinese factories :surrender:

But yes.. I'm afraid it's as ugly as it leaves (has left??) the factory.
(I hope it's discontinued by now)
