I'm in the process of tearing apart one of my live axle karts. I have a Manco Dingo that's presently vexing me to no end. It has the famed hex axle and while one wheel came free after impact-wrenching the wheel nut off (the only real issue), the other one has become "one" with the axle shaft.

I've been dosing it daily, hourly with a steady diet of Liquid Wrench (let's save the debate on penetrating fluid for later) to basically no avail. I was going to try a blowtorch to heat the hub but...

:idea2:
...got an idea to try my heat gun. I didn't wanna destroy the factory gold paint on the wheel or heat it so much it affected the steel's temper, which the blowtorch no doubt would do. So I heat the hub for several minutes taking care to avoid the axle poking through and then pound it with my BFH.

It was starting to move, finally, albeit slowly. Heat, hammer and douse it with Liquid Wrench seems to be working but it is far from an ideal situation. In wheel pic #2, you can see the wheel has been coming up as less threads are visible. By this writing, I have hammered the end of the axle flush with the hub. And there it remains...

:censored:  :mad2:

The moral of the story is use this:

I heard Chancer despises the stuff. Well he would since he apparently didn't follow your advice, used too much and promptly lost a wheel driving down the interstate or something.

No. Should I have? I'll leave that to you. Come on over. :D

I need a nice BFP. Big Friggin' Punch to push the axle end on through. Who has one?

Well I certainly appreciate your input despite the barbs hidden within.

And I can take a joke, unlike some people. If you tried laughter first instead of anger, you might have learned something. Lighten up, dear sir. I'll leave you with a proverb:

The man that takes himself (or life...) too seriously....is bound and doomed to suffer severe disappointment at one point or another...while the happy clown dancing through life can only stumble occasionally. ....but will be back on his feet.....barely missing a step.

Put the nut back on the other end just about covering the threads, stand kart on side and tap axle back through a bit with a piece of wood over the nut.
Round off the edges of what got mushroomed then use a rod or pipe or punch.

So you're saying drive the axle back through from the other end, re-seating the wheel (which in turn will help free it up more & knock off more corrosion) and then drive it back and off with a punch. I get it.

I have not rounded or mushroomed anything--I've tapped it squarely each time.

Tool is a vintage 48 oz. Blue Point hammer. Nice.

Ha ha, Joe. Not Mancos--that's a quality product unlike your Chinese scooter! :p

I'd just leave it as it is and drive around on it. You know eventually that sucker is going to fall off!

Honestly I have done that. Remove the Nut and drive around, the wheel loosened up and cam off easily.

This is so easy, a caveman could do it.
Cut the other end of the axle off, and use it for a punch!
It'll be the right size.:roflol:

The Aluminum axle that came on my buggy was bent so I cut it off and replaced it. I kept about a 12" section that was straight. It is now my BFPunch.

Whoa, calm down. Have you taken your Midol today? Or better yet, every day this week?

Notice I said I tapped it, not pounded it? Yeah.

Get away from the thread, Poboy! Crawl back under your rock from whence you came! Baaack! Back!!
