Here is the Kart my 10 yr old and I just finished. It features
a Briggs 8.75 ft lb torque engine, aluminum wheels, dual
disk brakes, diff, and all rod linkages - no cables. So far I am
really pleased with the performance and handling. I originally
designed it for a tc which is backordered so for now we are just
using the clutch set up. It's geared for about 18 mph right now
and with that gearing it just spins the back wheels anytime.
Will speed things up when he gets some experience.

i have a diff. from a deere mower on my kart, it works well but i am searching for disc breaks for it and i am wondering if a single disc on only one side of the diff. is going to be enough to stop me. will i tend to veer off to the side because only one side is being braked? also is that a 3/4 inch axle? thats what mine is and i have searched all over and cannot find the right disc for my axle

Problem is as soon as you would apply your brake the other wheel will actually speed up, swinging you in a circle right now. I should have put my disc on the diff housing - then one disc would stop everything but I didn't have the room and didn't want to raise my engine height. If you can mount your disc so it stops the housing from turning that's the best. Get a machine shop to make something-maybe out of an old sprocket - they could lathe off the teeth and drill holes etc. Axle is 1 inch

Yeah that works. I've seen this on production atv. Hope your
final drive chain doesn't break. But then that's part of the fun right

Paint is Nissan touch up which my kid picked out. The wheels
came from northern tool - they are available in 5 or 6 inch height
and with bearings or keyed. About involving kids in these activities - I was watching my 10 year old and 6 year old go to start the engine and they were discussing turning on the spark and how much to choke it and they started it - then I knew
this was all worth it.

I think 6.5 is right. It's 206cc I think. I've noticed these engines
come with the same cc but different rating. I saw a 9 ft lb unit
the other day with the same cc, and I've seen 8.5 as well
