fowler: I'll try to explain what's going on and I'll have more pics and describe better soon.

So to try and describe it: If you picture a clock face to represent the drive pulley the pivot point is inline with the piston's line of travel at 6 o'clock.....whereas an engine would be 3 o'clock, center and 9 o'clock.....

I did this for better leverage in the crush zone....(past 3 to before 9).....that works well...however...as the flywheel goes past 6...the connecting rod is moving upwards as well as forwards and then backwards...so by the time it's at 10....it's moving the piston back with the connecting rod and piston at a severe angle.....

That's why I made a track...but the track and wrist pin are a bit sloppy at the moment....I'll sort it out...but I think I should have located the track at about midway between.7 and 8.....

Longer rod, less angle.....

True....but that's what this is about....getting one together to find all the improvements for the next one....

Thanks Jim.....I should have spent a little more time playing with poster board....but....all in all....I'm pretty happy with how it's going.....

One thing that happened early on was somehow I cut the tracks too low....the piston was supposed to also ride on PVC pipe on the bottom....instead I had to cut the bottom of the piston off....that helped throw things off...

You cut the bottom of the piston off? So now . . . instead of Full Fast it's . . . . . .?

I presume it rotates clockwise

If u are looking at the first pic

Might need a sightly longer piston

So it cant cock over

Yes....that would help...as well as a longer rod.....but the biggest thing is the slop....

Once I tighten up the wrist pin/piston connection...(right now it has a 5/16 bolt and no washers....it needs 1/2" tube spacers and a 3/8" bolt)....and get the slot /piston tracks tightened up....it should would ok....

I mainly mentioned all this for imput on improving the final machine....

Any ideas where to look for large 12" or better v-belt pulleys? I'll want some for the real machine....

shops dedicated to industrial supply
or agricultural machine based places

i could rattle off quite a few but u wont have access to them
or its quite a swim for u to get access anyhow

Well....I bushed the wrist pin...still going to tighten the tracks...but binding is no longer an issue with the piston.....

Afraid I'm going to have to do something with the drive pulley pivot...it's npt quite up to the force required to run a tight belt.....might make an idler..

So I needed another pulley....so I asked my neighbor....and we got to looking around.....and I spotted one on a motor....checked the motor....it only turns 1750 vs. 3450 for the compressor motor .....and he gave it to me!!!!!

I like the slot in the top of the piston that helps feed the next can.....

That's the same motor I just picked up .....1/2 horse 1750 rpm.....but I don't have a 30:1 gear reduction box....so mine is going to cycle much quicker.....

You much have sprockets and chain laying around, make a reduction!

How much are they paying for cans in your area? Its about .01 each here..... Takes a lot of cans to get any payback...
