I want to have a motorized bike that i can use just to run to town and just have fun with. There are kits on ebay for about 120 bucks. I could buy one of those or i could put a larger 5hp engine one it. Has anyone put a 5hp motor on a bicycle or used on of the ebay kits?

there are few knuckleheads that have done it. theres arguement whether or not the gear will shatter, especially ten speeds or mountain bikes

Knuckleheads? I prefer the term "Dumb_ss", thank you! My bike worked great with a B/S 3hp- the 5hp vibrated way too much.

would a wipper spipper motor work

yea they work fine, most have a square section cut into the shaft and the shaft is quite short, but most have a centrifugal clutch, i have seen chainsaw bikes also, which have more kick.

those kits are good, but id love to see a 5hp on a bike

couldnt u use the shifter in the bike
if normal one shatter then use the heavy duty down hill bike one

I was thinking about putting my new OH195 on a mountain bike like this but then I realized the engine might be too big and powerful for this kind of application. No, actually the only thing stopping me from doing that is where I live it would be too noticeable and I wouldn't be able to use it to its full potential. I'm very interested in making a setup like this but using a small engine because the "transmission" is already there. There is a good vid off a guy using a 2.5hp 4-stroke like this. Sounds great hearing it rip through the gears.
