From 1987-2004 GM used a faulty oil pressure sending units for the gauge. One of the symptoms was a zero oil pressure reading at the gauge after an oil change. Add thicker oil it would go up a bit or if you revved the engine. It is worth the trouble to change it.

Okay, facts are a great thing, and history brings them out, thanks for the servicing snafu. Two things; (1): Where is the sending unit on the motor? and (2): do you have to remove the engine cover inside to get to it?
I've been told that engine cover thing opens a whole new can of worms, so it R&R's as a service job all by itself, before even touching the engine. I'm too busted up and broke down to work on it myself, and I've wrenched on vans and such very little to hardly at all ever since I started making enough money that it was cheaper to pay somebody else to do it than ruin it myself.
