I worked all day on this yesterday, trickiest part was the motor hight, I had an 1/8” alum plate under the motor for some shine but had to switch it out to 1/2” bars so the rear suspension geometry was right (so the chain wouldn’t loosen/tighten as the traveled up/down. It’s all good now thankfully and I lined up the sprockets, I lucked out on that part i was within maybe 1mm of being perfect(dumb luck) but easy fix.
As it sits it weighs 178lbs, the lithium battery and controller won’t add too much more.
Finally starting wiring today!!!! Really need to just transfer it from my dining room table over to the bike. Ok maybe not that simple.

I’ll post a video by the end of the week, just as it got dark tonight I got the wiring done enough to take a ride. I’m impressed, hauls my 170lb butt around quite easily and the front wheel lifts off the ground when I want it to. It still needs fenders/lights and a couple odds and ends buy ya it was a good day! I’ll take a couple pics in the daytime tomorrow and put them here. It’s amazingly quiet too. I’m hooked- after I parked it I looked at the 1,2,3 speed switch and I was in 2nd so still need to try out 3rd (more power) I can’t wait.....
Edit: no fenders yet/ $300+ For New white maier fenders (gotta save my pennies) couple wks anyway.

New “o-ring” chain on its way (cut down on chain noise I think) it’s not bad now but I think it’ll be a cheap improvement.

In the first video my only brake control was the left bar lever so holding my phone w/my left hand made it kinda difficult to ride.
Thanks, only the controller gets warm/it doesn’t seem to get hot but seems to get to a certain temp and stays there or close to it. Battery doesn’t change temp at all but while charging it raises maybe 5 degrees or so. The wires seem fine.
Doing the math- 16f 36rear with 20inch tires at 600rpm+- (1:5 geared motor) I should get around 15mph or so but seems quicker than that. There’s tons of torque it climbs great it even powers over 8inch fallen trees. I may drop down to a 30rear sprocket to bump my speeds up.
I may do an eBay search for a 7/8 Shaft 18 front sprocket 530 but to make it a 520 which I need I need to lathe it down about an 1/8 to fit. Its how I made the front sprocket I have now and It’s hardended steel and not the easiest for the lathe

I really like it.... the driveway across from ours is about a 40-45 degree incline and has no problem climbing it at all. I will definetly share any/all information with this build when it’s done it’s been very hot/humid here to mess w/it this wk.
Somebody here mention to me here in the beginning that I’ll always be on the lookout for bigger better batts/motors etc. When I started this thread I said this motor was a 60v 1800w but going through my receipts on Tuesday it’s only a 60v- 1500w...... my bad sorry:: I coulda sworn it was 1800w and convinced myself it was just that... the motor sticker was worn off so it could never be read too easily.
Soooo UPGRADE time. I’ve got a 60v 2200w heading here on the boat from overseas right now. It’s about a 25%+ more torque + speed.
It has the same motor mounts/still a 1:5 geared motor. My same controller can still handle it, my batt can too. (Motor should be a quick swap)
I have a one tooth larger front sprocket and two teeth less rear heading this way.
I’ll post again, prob be two weeks on any update w/new motor.
And honestly I think there was plenty of power in the first motor but you only live once right....

Updates yes. I changed up the motor to 2200w 46a this motor was about 1/2 inch longer and wider in size but the mounting holes lined up nice/ well close to it.
I also upgraded the controller to a 42-72v 80a. As u can see in pics it’s much larger but luckily fits nice under the side panels with just enough space to breath. She’s running great/ probably only 40min ride time so far, nothing is getting hot just luke warm the controller/motor/wires seem to be getting along well.(works been busy) to do much else as of now.
The tank is next I need a spot to mount the volt/amp display.
I’m happy with the speed/torque now. My kids say it doesn’t sound like a power wheel anymore it’s like a electric race car noise. I’m guessing maybe 30% more powerful.

Just Incase anyone’s wondering, winter has set in here and it’s too chilly in the garage. I’ll post back about this project soon, well maybe ten weeks (hoping for an early spring)!!!

Just an update, the tank is done (decals still needed) this tank had a “few” dents, dings and also looked like a few shotgun pellets grazed it. Perfect for my needs (it’ll never see gas again). Well some bondo, primer, and paint here it is. I wanted a speedometer, found a gps unit that fit nicely into the filler hole but I thought for a better stockish look it needed the tank cap rubber too.
Went for a drive (in the pickup) with the tank on my passenger seat w/a 12v battery, it works great thankfully (I wasn’t sure if the metal would block the gps signal) it actually doesn’t seem too at all.
Not much of an update but I’ve got about 3-wks into the tank figured I’d share...

Edit: working on installing the volt/amp meter I discovered I needed a shunt block (to insulate it for mounting) other hobby is plastics so a little quick mold making and I’ve got one. (Pics)

Yes this is still tank related. Then I’ll move on to the volt/amp gauge.
I needed a on/off switch for the in tank speedo- so a little claying up, molding, pouring,drilling and painting this now “plastic” fuel petcock is now a switch holder. The wires will feed up through it to power up the speedo.
My “original plan” was to mold up out of plastic both halves or 1/3rd of the original Honda engine and hang engine case parts on either side but that’d cost me about $200 for casting/molding materials- I may still
But definetly will do something/ I need a cover on that ankle grinder (front sprocket)

while molding an engine might indeed be on the expensive side;
some simpler shape can be done in the homeshop for quite a bit cheaper I'd say;
fiberglassing isn't too complicated and you do not need tons of material..
I'd say roundabout 50 bucks or so max.
From what I'm seeing you can spit out a decent molding buck from styrofoam within minutes.
maybe a bit of filler for a smooth surface
And seeing what kind of caftsmanship there is in that trike so far..
I bet you can build your own vacuum table within a few hours from materials you have laying around,
(nothing but a low profile wooden box with a vac port on one side and tons of drilled holes on top)
and while it's a bit uncomfortable;
a heat gun and a thin sheet of plastic is essentially all you need then
apart from patience..
and you made your own vacuum formed custom part with a day or two
for maybe 30 dollars in materials.
I wish Ozfab would still be around,
he'd tell you that all you need is a ball peen hammer to whack your straight aluminium plate into whatever shape you want..
Frankly I doubt I could.. but he claimed it's easy (coachbuilder he is.. me isn't )
And if you want to stick with the engine lookalike..
twice the amount of fiberglass and epoxy (one for the mold, one for the part)
and a pot of vaseline as a mold release (but yeah.. that'd be a hundred bucks... already )
Oh.. you don't happen to have a 3d printer, have you? if you're lucky you find that enigne as an stl file..
then all you'd need is to sit and watch the printer do it's thing (and maybe a spool of filament)
Itsid, no 3D printer here (yet). I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this before now but this will be just a bit heavier than plastic (motor mold pieces) about 1/3 motor halves (head section only I think) on each side of the bike. About 3 pounds of alum for this but cheap ($15 dollars) and only my labor.
Just need to fill the propane tank, and wait for the mailman-
