Sorry guys been a while, bit of an update for you:

-Carb adapters finished (carbs sitting in correct position)
-New gaskets
-Carbs fully rebuilt and cleaned out
-New Mechanical fuel pump (was broken before)

Whats left to get it running:
-Wire up ignition to switch and a push button starter (start on that tomorrow)
-Fuel tank

Unfortunately the main engine plate gasket is around 3 weeks away ex-Japan though is not needed to get the engine running.

Looking good! May I ask that you post some pictures of the water cooling hose routing along with a picture of the top of the cylinder head.

Hope thats clear enough, You can see that the front of the engine is not currently supported. I will be supporting here via the front plate but will wait for the gasket to get the measurements correct.

I can't tell by your pictures but does this exploded parts view look like it could be your engine with the #32 Thermostat cover?

So if I am understanding how you have the engine mounted the thermostat will be on the down side of the cylinder head or the low side of the water jacket on the top of the cylinder head which would normally be facing upwards in the original position?

I was going to suggest small barb fittings in the tops of the cylinder head water jackets with hoses on them going to a "Y" hose fitting and then from there with a hose to the top radiator tank in order to purge out any air bubbles that may occur in the water jackets, the small amount of water going through the bleed hoses would bypass the thermostat but many water cooled engines have a thermostat bypass orifice or hose to bleed out air bubbles in the cooling system. Another question that I have is you have shown in your pictures on the plate that you have had made arrows indicating (in and out) is this the original way that the water flowed through the water jackets? Because if it is not then the engines thermostat will not open because the hottest water in the water jacket will be on the wrong side of the thermostat creating the same condition as if the thermostat was installed wrong, just a thought.

Yes this is the correct way, the water circulates around the cylinder and head (top) then past the exhaust last (bottom).

If there is a thermostat this is the same flow direction as fitted in the outboard.

I have located a servicing manual which I am picking up tonight! Family friend owns a boating store.

Should be a black wire with yellow tracer. Connect that to ground and motor will die.

Cheers will test tonight :wai:

Cheers, I hope it works out too - I didn't realize just how hard it was going to be until I ripped the engine from the outboard.

Made some mounts:

No problem....just add a couple of jackshafts.... (I have it. on good authority...it can solve all manner of problems.)...real or imaginary!
