If you can find a second hand crashed bike it will be better than anything else.
For going through mud holes I think you'll want a water cooled engine. Lots of revving while stationary = overheated air cooled engine.
old briggs sell on ebay for really cheap too ($20-$50) so they may need to be totally rebuilt but if you got the time you can do that.
most parts you can just wash/clean and re use.
rebuild kits may be around 60-80 bucks and the more expensive ones come with a piston.
you're better off making your own gaskets from a cereal box (except for head gasket)
type in the model # in brigg's website and you get a list of all the parts and gaskets.
if you have a dremel they are real good rebuilding motors, (cleans out carbon) and powerwashing the block makes it look brand new. if you paint the block get some high temp paint.
High temp paint not necessary and is a waste of money.if you paint the block get some high temp paint.

agreed. 99 cent wal mart paint would do the job in my opinion. looks dont really matter considering it will be covered in mud. the high temp paint is expensive!! Plus i got the 2000 degrees i think is what it was and painted the manifolds on my jeep, the stuff aint worth a ****, and i paid almost 10 dollars a can i believe.

Yeah. No kidding! I painted my homebrew Cherry Bomb with a can of high-temp red that ran me $15, supposed to be good for 2500*, followed the instructions explicitly, and after a combined 2 hrs of run time, the bloody thing's nearly brown! What a PITA! What's a guy gotta do for a red muffler- the thing came out dead perfect when I fabbed it and a cherry bomb has to be red!![]()
Jeezus! That's gonna be wild!
